Question

Moving to SIM only and keeping current number

I’m wanting to potentially pay off the small balance left on my contract and change to sim only

I would like to stay with ID still but can I keep my current number?

My contract is due to end April 2027.

How would I go about doing this? would I have to pay for sim only contract first and somehow swap numbers over before paying off my current bill? thanks

    Hi @kw95,

    Thank you for your message.

Yes, you can keep your current mobile number. However, the process depends on when you'd like to move to a SIM-only plan.

As your current contract runs until April 2027, we would not recommend purchasing a separate iD Mobile SIM-only plan at this time, as this would result in two active contracts and two sets of charges.

If you'd like to switch before your contract ends, you may need to request a PAC code and move your number to another network temporarily. Once your current iD Mobile account has been closed and any outstanding balance has been settled, you can then take out a new iD Mobile SIM-only plan and transfer your number back using a PAC code from the temporary network.

Alternatively, if you wait until you are nearing the end of your contract, you'll be able to upgrade directly to a SIM-only plan through the iD Mobile app or your online account. This is the simplest option, as you'll be able to keep your number without needing to move it to another network.

    Thanks,

@Kwanele Z im having more or less the same problem as kw95 ! i have 2 seperate contracts my phone contract and sim only contract ! Now my phone contract runs out in november ! last month i wanted to pay my phone contract off and was told it would cost me £46 termination fee despite wanting to pay 2 months ! Anyways when my phone contract runs out im not renewing it because ive got my sim only contract and wont need 2 different numbers ! Now i asked about having my phone contract number transferred to my sim only contract only to be told i need to go to a different network get a sim and pac code from them then transfer the number back to id ??? Now as im registered disabled i need my phone contract number for doctors hospitals etc so i need my number but i cant change my number over til the contract ends and having seen a few people asking why there numbers havent been changed over is worrying for me because i will be without my number ! Its totally rediculous why id mobile cant just swap my nimber from 1 sim card to another without going onto another network to get a pac code ! SO WHY CANT ID MOBILE SWAP NUMBERS INTERNALLY ????

@Simoak i know its all a bit complicated. Hopefully there is a solution for you!

I took contract out on an honor and the phone was so bad and laggy I lasted 6 months with it and went back to my old samsung... I tried to report it but got nowhere

Im now just wanting to purchase a new phone and just go SIM only as my Samsung is about 5 years old but looks like I'm just going to have to wait til April 2027 sadly. I want to keep them phone number as it was a hassle charging all numbers over with bank etc

    Hi @Simoak.

Thank you for sharing this and I completely understand your concern, especially given how important it is for you to keep your number for things like doctors and hospitals.

I'm sorry to say that our system does not support transferring a mobile number directly from one iD Mobile account to another. This is why the process requires porting the number out to another network first and then back in, it isn't something we're able to do internally, even between two of your own accounts.

    Thanks,
