Switch from Pay Monthly to SIM only but can I keep the same number

Coming to the end of a Pay Monthly contract & want to switch to SIM only but need to keep the same number, is this possible?

Hi ​@Bess495 Thank you for reaching out. To switch to a sim contract whilst keeping your existing mobile number; please ensure you have 24 days left of your 24 months contract. You can follow the below steps on our self-care app.

SIM ONLY
Please follow the steps below:
1. From dashboard, scroll down and tap on "view all upgrade deals".  
2. On the next page, select the box "SIM only deals".  
3. Scroll down and tap on "choose this plan" next to the plan you wish to proceed with.  
4. On the next page, tap on "continue" and follow the steps to complete the order. A card verification will be required. After completing this step, tap on "place order".  
5. You will receive an order reference number at the end. 
If you run into any difficulties, Iet us know and we will be happy to assist.

Thank you for your prompt reply Marquerita, my pay monthly plan expires on 20.10.2025 & I’m happy staying with ID Mobile but want a SIM only monthly plan & must keep my same number, can you just confirm please that this is possible as I’m worried about losing my number, Thank You

Hello, I am having the same issue. I want to upgrade to SIM only, my contract is due in 1 week and I want a SIM only. I tried doing it through my app but I keep coming up with errors. I cannot call customer services as I am now living abroad but want to keep my number. Is there another way I can have this resolved and upgraded to sim only?

I understand the situation, especially as you’re living abroad and want to keep your number.

To upgrade to a SIM-only plan, this will need to be done by our Sales team. As you’re unable to call us, the good news is that this can be completed via Live Chat, so you don’t need to phone in.

Hello iD Mobile Support Team,

I’m looking for assistance and clear guidance regarding keeping my mobile number after moving to a new SIM‑only plan.

My situation is as follows:

  • I took out a 24‑month phone contract with iD Mobile in April 2024
  • This contract is due to end around April 2026
  • I am happy to remain with iD Mobile and therefore purchased an iD SIM‑only contract
  • My intention is to replace my original SIM with the new SIM‑only plan, while keeping my existing phone number

However, I’m now unsure how to proceed safely without risking losing my number.

I’ve found conflicting information between the iD Mobile website, app, and community posts. Some guidance suggests numbers are only retained if the SIM‑only plan is taken as an upgrade via the existing account, whereas other information does not clearly explain what happens if a SIM‑only plan is purchased separately.

At this point, I would like iD Mobile to please:

  1. Confirm whether it is possible to keep my existing number in my situation
  2. Explain the correct process to move my current number onto the new SIM‑only contract
  3. Advise what steps I should follow in the iD Mobile app or website to ensure my number is not lost
  4. Let me know whether support can manually assist, if this cannot be done self‑service

I do not want to leave iD Mobile, and I simply want a seamless transition from my phone contract to SIM‑only while retaining my long‑standing number.

I would really appreciate a clear, official response so I can proceed safely.

I can confirm that the best way to keep your number when changing to a SIM only plan is to upgrade your existing iD Mobile contract to a SIM only plan. This can be done 

 

We suggest that you contact our Sales team on 0800 049 0250 or via live chat https://www.idmobile.co.uk/live-chat and they’ll assist you with checking with upgrade options are available for you and guide you through the upgrade process. 

 

If you prefer to upgrade via the app or website, you may follow these steps:

 

  1. Visit the iD Mobile Website
  • Go to iD Mobile.
  1. Log In to My Account
  • Enter your username and password.
  1. Go to Upgrades
  • Select the “Upgrades” section.
  1. Choose SIM‑Only Plan
  • Browse available SIM‑only deals and select the one that suits you.
  1. Confirm Your Choice
  • Complete the checkout process to upgrade.
