Been with ID 2 years paying £42 ISH pcm.

I am now looking to process my upgrade to iPhone which is £38 pcm and £0 upfront.

I.D states it never asks for money if £0 upfront charge, yet I am being asked for bank details to pay a 0.01p charge for a free upgrade.

Is this legit?

And why are they doing more credit checks when I am paying £3 less than staying on I D contract I am on now?

Hi @martinmspeirs

Thank you for getting in touch.

Yes, this is completely legitimate. The 1p charge is a standard bank verification step to confirm your payment details and will be refunded. Even when an upgrade shows a £0 upfront cost, this small transaction is sometimes required for security and verification purposes.

Regarding the credit check, this is a normal part of processing any upgrade, however as opposed to a brand new application this will not be a hard credit search it is a soft credit search. Even though your new plan is £3 less per month than your current one, a fresh credit check is still required because the upgrade involves a new device and a new credit agreement. This helps ensure the account details are up to date and that the agreement is set up correctly.

Thanks,

Anneline

Thank you so much, delighted to hear as I went ahead with it and paid 1p.

May I ask one further question please…

The email confirmations are all written in a way that suggests I am a new customer.

Can I check I am ok and this will not charge two accounts
