Endinng current contract but staying with iD.

My contact ends on 28.4.25. I intend to get a new phone and plan (still with I’d) via mobiles.co.uk (they’re much cheaper than the upgrade offered by I’d). I’m assuming I need to request a PAC and to give 30 days notice today, so the contract ends on 28.4.25. Is that correct? Thanks

Hi @Zingylemontart

The only way to keep your number and change to a plan with iD Mobile, via mobiles.co.uk, which isn’t available from them, is to first request a PAC code and then move to a seperate network for 1 month (SIM only contract) and then immediately request a PAC code to move back via the offer.

You can’t move between plans that are not available via ‘upgrade’ with iD Mobile and so you will need to move to another network (SIM only and month to month) before you can move back via the offer you have found.

To confirm that the offer you have found can not be matched by iD Mobile (without having to faff with changing networks) use the Live Chat. Type ‘talk to a person’ in the dialogue box to bypass the inane questions.

Just be aware that the agents are dealing with many chats at a time and it may take a while to start a chat and also to reply to you so set some time aside to cover this.

Good luck x

Hey there @Zingylemontart, if you wish to keep your phone number with us, you will need to order via the “Upgrades” tab when logged in.

Purchasing a new plan via Mobiles.co.uk means you cannot transfer your number directly to it I’m afraid.

Thanks,

Tyler

Thank you for this reply. I have tried asking iD but they cannot match the offer. Looks like I need to do a one month switch then come back. 😟

Hi @Zingylemontart

If your are happy with the connectivity of iD mobile then it may be worth moving to SMARTY for the one month (SIM only) contract as they also use the THREE network but make sure that they support your current handset for use with VoLTE.

Thank you for that! Hadn’t known about Smarty, so that’s great, they’re cheaper than Three.  Should be safe as it’s an iPhone 13.
Also, apologies if I’m being a tad dim, but are devices these days locked to networks? If I move to Smarty with my current phone, will that phone then be able to go back to  either iD or another network easily? The plan is to give my old phone to my son once I have a new one….

Again, thank you so much!

Hi @Zingylemontart

In the UK, mobile networks were banned from selling locked phones from December 17, 2021, under new rules from Ofcom, meaning all phones sold after that date must be unlocked.

To check your phone……/
https://deviceguides.vodafone.co.uk/apple/iphone-13-ios-17/basic-use/view-network-provider-lock-status-on-your-phone/

If you need to unlock your handset ……..
https://www.backmarket.co.uk/en-gb/c/iphone/how-to-unlock-iphone

This is the answer I got via AI on Google Chrome when I asked ‘if my iphone 13 works with iD Mobile will it work with SMARTY’……..

Yes, if your iPhone 13 works with iD Mobile, it should also work with SMARTY, as both providers use Three's network for their services.

Here's a more detailed explanation:

  • Shared Network:

Both iD Mobile and SMARTY are "Mobile Virtual Network Operators" (MVNOs) that use Three's network infrastructure to provide their services.

  • Coverage:

This means you'll experience the same network coverage and performance with either provider, as they both leverage Three's network.

  • SIM Compatibility:

As long as your iPhone 13 is unlocked and compatible with Three's network, it should work with a SIM card from either iD Mobile or SMARTY.

The only way to actually know is to move to SMARTY.

Good luck in getting the deal you are working towards!
