Data roaming not working in Europe

I have recently returned from travelling in Austria and Hungary and was unable to use data at any time. My phone settings were set to roaming. I was regularly showing 5 bars of 5g reception with R being displayed. I tried switching from airplane mode and back, changed service providers, rebooted the phone several times, but nothing worked. I had to rely on WiFi the whole time. Now I'm back in the UK everything is working normally. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks for reaching out, and I’m really sorry you couldn’t use data while abroad. Since your settings were correct, here are a few things that might help:

-Make sure Data Roaming is switched on.
-Check that your APN settings match iD Mobile’s (you can find these in the iD Mobile app or website).
-Ensure your plan includes EU roaming and you haven’t hit any usage limits.
-Try manually selecting a different network again while abroad.

Thanks for the reply, but I did all the things you suggested. I was away for 12 days so a network problem seems unlikely.

Thanks. That looks like the problem. The box for roaming on my account was unticked. No idea how it got unticked as I used the phone abroad last year and had no problems. Thanks for the help. I’ll be checking that the roaming box is ticked the next time I go abroad.
