Question

international roaming in depth

Looking at international roaming I have never used this before. The gb of data is this for the whole plan so for 10 days you get 20gb of data is that for the 10 days inclusive or split per day? Do you only get data not calls or texts? It doesn’t mention anything about this. 2gb a day for all data/whatsapp/facetime calls/maps ect does not seem sufficient enough for any trip?

Hi @Waterloo789.

Thanks for your question.  I’m happy to clarify how roaming works with iD Mobile.

Your roaming data is not split per day. Instead, it comes from your overall monthly allowance, so for example if your plan includes 20GB, that is 20GB total for your usage, not 2GB per day or a daily reset.

While abroad in an included roaming destination, you can also use your UK allowances for calls and texts, and receive calls/texts at no extra cost (subject to fair usage rules).

The “2GB per day” example you may have seen is not how iD Mobile roaming operates,  your usage simply continues to come from your main allowance until it runs out.

In short, it’s a single allowance for the trip/month, not a daily allocation.

Hi, Thankyou for clarifying on the data usage that is good to know it is not capped per day.

im still unsure on the calls and texts part this is an add on for a country outside the 50 free destinations. If I receive a text message or phonecall this in then outside of that 20gb data I have paid for how do I go around this and stop this happening?

Hi @Waterloo789

Thanks for getting back in touch I’m glad the data side is clearer now.

For destinations outside of our inclusive roaming countries, your add-on will only cover data usage. This means that calls and texts are not included and would be charged separately if used.

To avoid unexpected charges, you will need to set your bill CAP to £0.

To set your Bill Cap in the iD Mobile app:

1. Log in to the iD Mobile app
2. Go to Account
3. Select Billing & Usage
4. Tap on Bill Cap
5. Set the amount to £0
6. Confirm the change

Once this is set, any out-of-plan usage (such as roaming charges, extra data, calls or texts not included in your plan) will be blocked automatically.

This is especially useful when travelling, as it helps you stay in full control of your spending.
