Question

New ID Mobile not working in USA

I moved 3 numbers from O2 to ID Mobile. Kept all 3 numbers (so a PAC transfer). One of the numbers is for my son. All is fine in the UK. But for my son he did the PAC switch from O2 on the Tuesday, the transfer from O2 worked just fine on the Wednesday but he travelled to the USA on the Friday and his UK number is not working. His UK e-sim is not registering with a network in the US...wifi calling doesn’t work…cannot receive texts...nothing. He purchased a one day data plan to see if that worked. It didn’t. It is as if his UK ID Mobile e-sim will not even register on a US network or work abroad on Wifi. It was working okay in the UK before he left. Any ideas how to resolve this?

Hi @Stormycat

Thank you for reaching out.

We’re sorry to hear that your son is unable to use his iD Mobile eSIM while travelling in the USA, especially as the service was working correctly in the UK before leaving.

When using iD Mobile roaming in the USA, please check the following:

1. Confirm roaming is enabled

  • Log in to the iD Mobile app
  • Check that Roaming is active on the account

2. Check handset settings

On iPhone:

  • Go to Settings
  • Select Mobile Service
  • Select the iD Mobile eSIM
  • Ensure Turn On This Line is enabled
  • Select Mobile Data Options
  • Turn Data Roaming ON

3. Manually select a network
In the USA, please try connecting to one of our roaming partner networks manually: (AT&T / T-Mobile)

  • Go to Settings
  • Select Mobile Service
  • Select the iD Mobile line
  • Tap Network Selection
  • Turn off Automatic
  • Allow the available networks to load
  • Try selecting an available network manually

4. Restart the eSIM connection

  • Turn the iD Mobile eSIM line off
  • Wait around 30 seconds
  • Turn it back on
  • Restart the handset

5. Check Wi-Fi Calling
Please ensure:

  • Wi-Fi Calling is enabled in the iPhone settings:
    • Settings > Mobile Service > Wi-Fi Calling
  • The device is connected to a stable Wi-Fi connection
  1. Set bill CAP to £0 as well to avoid out of plan charges.

Please also note that Wi-Fi Calling may not always work abroad if the handset has not fully registered with the network.
