On holiday near a border

If I am an included European country, but close to  a border of a country that isn’t , what will happen if my phone picks up a network from across the border?

    Hi @AndyNics,

    That's a fantastic question!

If you're in an included roaming destination but your phone connects to a network in a neighbouring country that isn't included in your plan, your usage will be charged according to the rates for that country.

This can occasionally happen in border areas, coastal regions, or on ferries, where your phone may pick up a stronger signal from a nearby country even though you haven't physically crossed the border.

To help prevent unexpected charges, we'd strongly recommend setting your bill cap to £0.00 before you travel:

    • Open the iD Mobile app or log in to My Account.
    • Go to Bills.
    • Select Manage Bill Cap.
    • Set the cap to £0.00 and save the change.

You may also wish to manually select a network while travelling rather than leaving network selection on Automatic. This can help prevent your phone from connecting to a non-included network near a border.

If you're planning to travel near a specific border, let us know the countries involved and we'll be happy to advise further.

    Regards,
