Permanent Roaming Issue

Just had a very frustrating conversation with a customer services agent through chat.

My issue is that the rotation of my job takes me out of the UK for 21 days (within the EU) and then back in the UK for 21 days between the  months of March to November. A total of 147 days out of the country in a non-continuous run.

This seems to put me in the ‘Permanent Roaming’ category. Infuriating as it is far from permanent. To get around this it seems I will need to cancel and re-sign up to a pay monthly sim every couple of months. Does anybody have any better suggestions or has had any experience with the permanent roaming clause?

I have used local sims for many years and ultimately I just want one provider who can facilitate EU roaming without charging me through the roof. ID Mobile seemed to be that provider at first but now it seems it’s just as much hassle.

Hey there @JenD, we’re sorry to hear this, and our apologies for only just getting back to you, as this post appears to only have just been approved by our automatic system.

Unfortunately, what you were advised would be correct, and this would be classed as permanent roaming. Sorry about that.

    Thanks,

    Tyler

    Does anyone have a solution?
I need to be out of the UK for more than 63 days at a time…. What are the implications for charges on day 64 onwards?

Hi there @timboosler, please see below:

    Permanent Roaming.

We understand that sometimes you will want to roam abroad for short periods of time. Our Roam Free feature is available to our UK resident customers who travel occasionally, rather than those living abroad. If over a 4-month period you spend 63 days or more in our free roaming destinations, you will be subject to further charges.

If we notice that you might not be following our Fair Usage Policy or if you're using our services in a way that goes against our Terms and Conditions, we might temporarily restrict your account.

We will notify you 14 days before the charges are applied to help you avoid incurring any surprise costs. The additional roaming charges applied to your plan will be:

    3.2p per minute per call
    1p per text
    10p

    per MB of data
