Using another esim abroad and wifi calling

I have purchased an esim for when I am abroad. I want to make sure all data uses the travel esim. How do I configure each esim to do this? Can I use WiFi calling over the travel esim and how would I set up the esims for this? Do I have to keep the primary esim enabled for WiFi calling? And will occur any charges abroad?

For WiFi calls to work, your iD Mobile SIM or eSIM must be active and enabled in your device settings. Additionally, you’ll need to connect to a Wi-Fi network.

I’m not sure if you’ll incur charges. I’m also not sure if WiFi calling works when travelling abroad. However, theoretically, if you’re connected to WiFi while abroad and WiFi calling is enabled any calls to 01, 02, 03 and 07 as well as SMS to UK mobiles should be free since you’re not roaming on a foreign network. Obviously, any calls or texts to other numbers will incur a charge.

Perhaps try changing the network selection method from automatic in the phone settings to manual. Then, before travelling, select the iD Mobile network. This will prevent your phone/SIM/eSIM roaming on a foreign network but still allow access to WiFi calling.

Don’t forget to set your bill cap to zero (just in case).

What phone are you using? If it’s an iPhone:

Settings > Mobile Service > Mobile Data > Select the travel eSIM

As for WiFi calling, this only works with a WiFi connection; it won’t work over a mobile data connection.

Good point re WiFi calling. Thanks. I worded it badly. My understanding is that WiFi calling is linked to my id mobile sim in some way. If I want to use WiFi calling do I have to keep my id mobile esim enabled?  And will I get any charges as I won't have any calls allowance on my id mobile sim where I am going? I have an android phone.
