Using the roam beyond package in New Zealand

I’m going to New Zealand for 18 days. I was thinking about purchasing the roam beyond package. Can I just start it once I arrive in Nee Zealand at the airport and then will it be ok to buy another package (as they only last 10 days) again once the first package has finished, again in New Zealand while I am out there. I take it if I set my bill limit to 0 I can’t be charged any accidental charges? Is there anyway of making local phone calls that won’t cost an arm and a leg. I know I can use WhatsApp etc but I mean normal phone calls.

Hi @rhlawst,

You can purchase your Roam Beyond add-on once you arrive in New Zealand, and it will activate immediately. As the add-ons last for a maximum of 10 days, you can simply purchase another one while you're still in New Zealand when the first one expires to cover the remainder of your trip.

Setting your bill cap to £0.00 is also a good idea, as it will help prevent any unexpected out-of-plan roaming charges if your add-on expires or you accidentally use a chargeable service.

Please bear in mind that the Roam Beyond add-ons are data-only. They don't include calls or texts, so any standard phone calls (including local calls within New Zealand) are charged separately at our out-of-plan roaming rates, which you can view here: https://www.idmobile.co.uk/help-and-support/roaming. If you need to make regular local calls, it may be more cost-effective to purchase a local SIM or eSIM while you're there.

Using apps such as WhatsApp, FaceTime Audio or Messenger over your Roam Beyond data allowance is generally the most cost-effective way to stay in touch.

We hope you have a fantastic trip!

Thanks that’s helpful. So if I purchase the roam beyond package when I arrive in New Zealand i dont have to do anything with my settings on the phone or remove my SIM card that is already in the phone, everything just automatically works and my roaming is sorted, is that right. I’m hiring a car to travel round New Zealand so will be using my phone to navigate.

Hi @rhlawst

I can confirm that is correct, you do not need to remove your SIM. All you would need to do is ensure that roaming is enabled on both your handset and iD Mobile account.

Thanks,

Anneline
