I recently made a call to USA using what I believed was a Freephone (1-800- ). However I got charged for the call. Should this call have been free?

    Hi @Alant1948

Thank you for getting in touch with us, I understand your concern regarding the charge for your call to a US 1-800 number.

Please note that US Freephone numbers (1-800 numbers) are not free when dialled from the UK or while roaming, even though they are free when called within the United States. As a result, these calls are treated as international calls and are chargeable under your tariff.

    Thank you,

Hi - thanks for the response.

However I have just found this info on the Wells Fargo website:

International Access Codes - Wells Fargo

Customers outside of the United States can call Wells Fargo customer service toll-free from most countries.

    Business Accounts

    Online Customer Service

    United Kingdom (U.K.)

    00-800-22559356

    00-800-95644422

So, would a call to this number be free or not?

Is it a ‘special’ number that somehow gets round the ‘international - chargeable’ tariff?

    TIA
