Question

How can I setup two factor authentication for my online account?

I just helped my son to replace this lost SIM, and noticed that iD Mobile online account access is not secured using two factor authentication (2FA). This is pretty surprising since it’s so insecure for something as important as my mobile phone number.

    Hi @Mezza9

At the moment, full traditional two-factor authentication (2FA) for the iD Mobile app login is not widely available for all customers. Standard SMS or authenticator app-based 2FA has been requested by customers, however it is currently limited or has not yet been fully rolled out.

What you can do within the app is enable biometric login (Fingerprint or Face ID), which adds an extra layer of protection on your device.

    To enable this:

    Open the iD Mobile app
    Tap More
    Tap Login details
Turn on Use biometrics for login

Thanks Michael, that’s fine for securing the mobile app but woefully insecure for online login via the web.

I gather from chatting with an advisor that I can add a memorable password that is required to secure live chat sessions. This too is not really sufficient.

given how important it is to secure access to my phone number, I will be looking to leave iD mobile as soon as practical.
