iPad eSIM registration SMS bug

I have a data-only eSIM contract for my iPad. I am trying to register for a My iD account, but the verification SMS is being sent to the iPad eSIM. Because iPads cannot receive standard SMS text messages, I am completely locked out of completing the registration process. There is no alternative option offered (like email verification). How can data-only tablet users register for an online account? - Device: iPad - OS Version: iPadOS 17/18 - SIM Type: eSIM (Data-only)

Thanks for getting in touch.

 

As the verification code is sent by SMS, you'll need to temporarily install the SIM/eSIM in a device that is capable of receiving text messages in order to complete the registration process.

 

Once you've received the verification code and successfully registered your My iD account, you can move the SIM/eSIM back to your iPad and continue using it as normal.
