Question

How do I get a SIM sent if I don't have access to my account or have a photo ID?

I have a damaged SIM that does not work and I’m trying to get a replacement.

I don’t have access to my ID Mobile account as the details to login are stored on an online account which requires a code to be sent to the number associated with the broken SIM.

When I spoke to someone online they said the only way to get a replacement sent through the post was with a photo ID, I don’t have one. They won’t accept any other identification. When I explained this I was told there was no other option. This makes no sense as they sent the phone and SIM to this address and I didn’t have to provide any ID and I bet if I didn’t pay my bill they would send the demands to this address.

The only other option was to go to the nearest Currys (30 miles away) and get a new SIM there but I have agoraphobia so that’s not an option.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I cannot access my bank accounts as well without this number.

Thanks

Even though I was contacted privately and sent the required details I have had no response.

Please be aware if you are thinking of joining this company that if you need a replacement SIM you will need a photo ID before they will send one. They sent the original SIM and a mobile phone to this address without an ID and I bet if I were to stop paying the bill the demands would come to this address but they will not send a SIM.

Also, if you are like me and had 2FA turned on for your online accounts, make sure you have a back up way to get into your accounts because if you lose access to your phone number you’re stuck.

Hi @retroqubit,

We are so sorry to hear of the issues that you are facing,

Kindly note, you are able to collect one at any Currys store free of charge, however without proof of identity, such as your passport or license, we are not able to send out or activate a SIM card. The identity documents is part of our fraud prevention process.

Regards,

I don’t have a photo ID. I’m still under contract. Why should I keep paying if I’m not getting a service. I bet if I cancel the direct debit you will still be able to send out a bill to this address without requiring an ID.

They sent the original SIM and a mobile phone to this address without an ID

No, they didn’t. Your ID and address were verified using credit or debit card authorisation. For a long time ID Mobile customers complained about the ease of requesting a replacement SIM and falling victim to SIM swap scams. However, ID Mobile have since implemented stricter SIM replacement requirements and now people are complaining about being asked for ID.
