I want my phone to receive all possible calls

In most cases, users of smartphones want to block certain numbers for spam, marketing and other reasons, but I want to allow them ALL through!

My reasoning is that months ago I was expecting an important call from the Department of Work and Pensions, via a random, undisclosed 0800 number, and that number was automatically blocked by the phone the moment they tried to call. They subsequently tried to call three more times while I waited, not realising that my phone would’ve done such a thing as block it. I was therefore sanctioned for a week for “not responding” and lost around £100.

My question is: why did this happen, and how can I allow ALL calls to come to the phone without hindrances of any kind? What settings do I have to change?

My phone is a Samsung Galaxy A13.

    Hi @AMJF,

I’m sorry to hear this resulted in you missing such an important call. I completely understand why you want to make sure all incoming calls are allowed through.

On your Samsung Galaxy A13, please check the following:

    1. Open the Phone app.
    2. Tap the three dots in the top-right corner.
    3. Select Settings.
    4. Select Block numbers.
    5. Make sure Block calls from unknown numbers is switched OFF.
    6. Check your blocked numbers list and remove any numbers you don’t want blocked.
    7. Return to the Phone settings and select Caller ID and spam protection.
    8. If Block spam and scam calls is enabled, switch this OFF as well.

It’s also worth checking that Do Not Disturb is switched off and that you don’t have any third-party spam or call-screening apps installed that could be blocking calls.

This should ensure that unknown or withheld numbers are allowed through rather than being automatically blocked by the handset.

What about Wi-Fi Calling? Is that advisable?

Also, if the number calls me and is immediately blocked and I see it in the blocked numbers list, will unblocking it allow the number to go through or will it just be blocked again?

    Hi @AMJF,

Wi-Fi Calling can certainly be useful, particularly when you have little or no mobile signal but have a stable Wi-Fi connection. Please bear in mind that Wi-Fi Calling will generally only be used when the mobile signal is unavailable or insufficient.

Regarding the blocked number, once you manually remove the number from your blocked numbers list, future calls from that number should be allowed through normally.

If the number is being automatically blocked by your handset’s spam protection rather than appearing on your manually blocked list, we’d also recommend switching off the spam/scam call filtering settings we mentioned previously.

    Regards,
