iD Mobile SIM-only – constant "Emergency calls only" after porting number, need SIM disable/enable to restore service

Ported my number over to a new iD Mobile SIM-only contract a few days ago. Since then, my signal keeps dropping to "Emergency calls only" — no data, no calls. The only way I can get it back is to go into settings and manually disable then re-enable the SIM. This is happening repeatedly, not a one-off.

Phone: Oppo Find X5
SIM: Brand new, physically fine (checked and cleaned the contacts anyway)

I had zero issues with my previous network (Talkmobile) on the exact same phone, so this really only started with the port to iD Mobile.

I contacted support and was given this troubleshooting list:

  1. Restart the phone completely
  2. Toggle Airplane Mode on/off
  3. Power off, reseat the SIM, wipe the gold contacts, reinsert
  4. Reset network settings (Settings > System settings > Backup and reset > Reset phone > Reset network settings)

I've already tried removing and cleaning the SIM myself, and the SIM is brand new so wear/damage seems unlikely. They also asked if I'd tested the SIM in another phone, which isn't really practical for most people to do on the spot.

Has anyone else had this issue after porting to iD Mobile, particularly on an Oppo Find X5 or similar? Wondering if this is a provisioning/network-side issue rather than a handset or SIM problem, since the fault only started after the port. Any advice appreciated before I go back to support again.

    Hi @Datastream101,

I’m very sorry that this issue has continued since your number was ported and that your WhatsApp call has now also been disconnected. I also apologise that you haven’t received the promised follow-up regarding complaint within the advised timescale.

To allow our team to review the ongoing fault, your complaint and your request to leave without an early termination fee, please contact us through one of the following channels:

    • iD Mobile Live Chat

    • A private message through our official Facebook page

    • A private message through our official Instagram page

When using Live Chat, please type “speak to a human” or “speak to an agent” to be connected with a member of our team. They’ll be able to access the previous notes, review the service issues and advise you on the available cancellation options.

    Thanks,

    Tashnieka

Thanks Tashnieka. To add: I couldn't make any calls at all today (09/08), on top of everything already reported.

I'd rather not go back through general Live Chat given the history on this thread — repeated re-troubleshooting from scratch, a chat terminated by an agent, and no continuity between conversations.

I already have a complaint reference (510994333) and was given a named 2nd line complaints contact (Yomelela) who called me on 09/08 with a credit offer.

Could you confirm the best way to reach that team directly to discuss the fee-free termination request, rather than starting again through general chat?

Update (09/08): Live Chat today (agent Winnie) confirmed the complaint (ref: 510994333) has been closed with only the £30 credit offered — with no response to my specific request to terminate under Clause 4.6.1 of your own Terms & Conditions (fee-free exit where service has been unavailable 7+ days due to a fault on iD's end).

I was told that if I want to disconnect without paying a termination fee, I need to contact mobiles.co.uk instead.

To be clear on where things stand:

    • Fault ongoing since 21/07 (19 days), confirmed on two separate SIMs
    • Includes a dropped WhatsApp call and a full day (09/08) with no calls possible at all
    • Complaint formally logged 01/08, promised follow-up within 3 days never arrived on time
    • Complaint has now been closed with only a £30 credit — no acknowledgment of the fee-free exit clause, no explanation of root cause, no confirmation the fault is fixed

I don't consider this resolved. Given the clear pattern and duration of the fault, I believe Clause 4.6.1 applies and I should be able to terminate without an early termination fee. Can someone confirm this in writing, or explain specifically why it doesn't apply, rather than redirecting me to a different company without a clear answer?
