Intermittent Text Notifications with Samsung

Hi, I've owned Samsung Galaxys for many years and am well used to the settings. I'm having an issue where intermittently I do not get a notification sound when I receive a text message or WhatsApp, but do when it's an email or system message. It then returns to normal a day or so later. It's not the do not disturb feature and the numbers aren't blocked. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm loathed to do a factory reset but a setting reset didn't work.

    Thanks for your message. I understand how frustrating it is when text or WhatsApp notifications come through intermittently.

    Try these quick steps:

    Check app notifications – make sure sounds are enabled for Messages and WhatsApp.

    Battery optimization – set both apps to Not Optimized so notifications aren’t restricted.

    Clear app cache – Settings → Apps → Messages/WhatsApp → Storage → Clear Cache.

    Check Do Not Disturb / priority notifications – ensure texts and WhatsApp are allowed.

    Also, make sure your phone software is up to date.
