Iphone 17 won't charge - need help

Hey everyone,

I'm having an issue with my iPhone 17 — the charging cable won't stay in the port and the phone isn't charging reliably.

I've already tried the following with no luck:
- Restarting the phone
- Cleaning out the port with a toothpick and compressed air to remove any lint/debris
- Trying different Apple-certified cables

The problem persists no matter what I do. Has anyone else experienced this with the iPhone 17? Could it be a faulty port? Is this a known hardware issue? And is it something Apple would cover under warranty?
Right now I’m relying on only MagSafe charger.

I can’t see to access the Live chat either to ask this question either even though I’ve tried on anonymous browsing, removed all blockers, allowed pop ups etc and the live chat still won’t appear.

Thanks for sharing all the details, and sorry you’re having such a frustrating issue with your iPhone and the live chat not loading as well.

 

From what you’ve described, it does sound like a possible hardware issue with the charging port, especially since you’ve already tried different cables, cleaned the port, and the problem is still happening. Unfortunately, there isn’t a known “iPhone 17” specific charging port issue that iD Mobile would be able to confirm or diagnose, and we’re also not able to inspect or repair devices directly.

 

The best next step would be to have the device checked by one of the following:

  • Apple directly, through an Apple Store or Apple Support, as they can run diagnostics and confirm whether the charging port is faulty and advise on warranty cover
  • Currys (if that’s where the phone was purchased or insured), as they can also arrange assessment or repair
  • Or a certified Apple repair provider, who can safely inspect the charging port and confirm if it needs repair or replacement

The iphone is on contract through ID Mobile. So how do I go about fixing this?

Thanks for the update. From what you’ve described; the charging cable not staying in the port and the phone not charging reliably, this does sound like a hardware issue rather than a network issue.

 

As the device is supplied by the manufacturer, the best next step would be to take it to your nearest Currys store, where they can inspect the phone and advise on repair or warranty options for you.
