Question

Moved from a contract to Sim only & data usage has increased nearly 100%??

For 2 years I was on an Unlimited Text, Unlimited Calls and Unlimited Data contract. Each month I was using on average 10gb of Data as shown on my bills / Statements. On the 12th June I changed to a Sim Only contract with 100gb a month Data Allowance. For some reason, my data usage in the first 11 days of this contract has only 2gb of data left. For example, last night I was informed I had 17gb of data left and this morning it is now 2gb.

I haven’t changed anything on my phone or how I use my phone. Is somebody able to explain this huge jump in data usage since the switch from contract to Sim only?

Thanks

Emma

Hi @EmmaTanc,

Thanks for getting in touch.

We're sorry to hear about the unexpected increase in your data usage.

When you upgrade to a new plan, data rollover doesn't apply until your next monthly allowance refresh, so any unused data from your previous plan won't carry over during the first month of your new plan.

To help reduce data usage, we'd recommend:

  • Connecting to Wi-Fi whenever possible.
  • Checking which apps are using the most data in your phone's settings.
  • Turning off background app refresh for apps that don't need it.
  • Enabling Data Saver or Low Data Mode on your device.
  • Making sure app updates only download over Wi-Fi.

If the data usage still doesn't seem right, we'd recommend contacting our Customer Service team via Live Chat so they can take a closer look at your account and help identify where the data has been used.

Regards,
