Moving from sim card to esim

My wife has moved from iPhone X to iPhone17e.

The X has a physical sim but the 17e has no card slot so its an esim which I know nothing about.I am tearing my hair out trying to transfer from old phone to new but I do not have a QR code and the method that entails placing handsets side by side does nothing.Can someone please help.
