new phone; swapping physical SIM for eSIM

I’m getting a new phone (both new and old are iPhones) and wanted to swap to eSIM. I tried to follow instructions on a previous thread but can find none of the options/pages mentioned so I’m stuck. I’ve just requested an eSIM and the auto response tells me to only open the link on the phone I’ll be using - but I won’t be able to view emails until there’s a SIM in it!? Help. Please!

Thank you; I’d forgotten how simple it is to set up a new phone! I’ve already scanned the eSIM and transferred everything without difficulty.

Thanks for posting, you’re right, it’s tricky if you can’t access email on the new iPhone before the SIM is in.

The key is to get the new iPhone online first so you can open the eSIM activation email. Please:

Connect your new iPhone to Wi‑Fi (you can do this during setup without any SIM).
Once connected, sign in to your email (or use another device to forward the eSIM email to an account you can access on the new phone).
Then open the eSIM activation link on the new iPhone and follow the on‑screen steps to activate the eSIM.
