No id Mobile support for iPhone X or older?

Hi, I have a friend who has been working fine with an iD Mobile SIM in her iPhone X for some time.  It recently had to get repaired and a new screen was fitted.  It no longer works with an iD Mobiel SIM at all,  The SIM is recognised, the display shows 4G but there are no bars and no working voice of data connection.   I have personally tried a Vodafone SIM in her phone and its is fine and the iD Mobile SIM in both a recent Android phone and my iPhone 15 and the SIM is working fine.

As a test, I have tried my iD Mobile SIM in an old iPhone 8 and same issue, SIM is recognised, 4G shows in the top right but no bars and no voice or data service

Have iD Mobile changed something to no longer work with iPhone X or earlier??   The FAQ says that with 4G and VoLTE things should work, but the iD Mobile app is no longer supported.

This is odd as the iPhone X was working up to about 5 weeks ago!  Any thoughts or updates?

Hi @Brenmeister66,

Thank you for your message. We can appreciate how confusing this is, especially as the iPhone X was working fine with the iD Mobile SIM only a few weeks ago.

We have not intentionally blocked older iPhones, however this issue can sometimes occur following the UK 3G network switch-off and changes to network carrier settings on older devices. As we operate on the Three network, which has retired its 3G service, some older devices can become stuck in a situation where they recognise the SIM and show 4G, but are unable to connect properly for calls, texts, or data.

Before concluding that the handset is incompatible, please try the following:

1. Check for a Carrier Settings Update

  • Connect the iPhone to Wi-Fi.
  • Go to Settings > General > About.
  • Remain on this screen for around 30 seconds.
  • If prompted with "Carrier Settings Update Available", please accept it.

2. Reset Network Settings

  • Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
  • This will clear old network settings and force the phone to refresh its connection profile.

3. Toggle VoLTE

  • Go to Settings > Mobile Service (or Cellular) > Mobile Data Options > Voice & Data.
  • If a VoLTE option is available, switch it off and back on. On some devices this setting may be enabled automatically and not visible.

Given that the iD Mobile SIM works in newer devices and another network's SIM works in the repaired iPhone, this points more towards a device configuration issue rather than a fault with the SIM itself.

Please try the steps above and let us know the outcome. We'll be happy to investigate further if the issue persists.

Thanks.

Hi Kwanele,

I have already followed all the steps you have outlined as they are already on your support website.  None of them have had any impact.

  1. There are no updated carrier settings showing available.  Even after a network settings reset.
  2. See above, no change visible in the settings and still shows 4G but no bars and no voice or data service.
  3. Toggled the VoLTE many times now with no difference.

I agree that the SIM is fine, and that this is a device configuration issue on the Three / ID Mobile network for iPhone X and earlier, just can’t seem to find a way to get it to reconfigure or force usable settings on to it!  Are there any ways to request new network settings from the phone?  Or should we just accept that something has actually changed on the Three network to effectly block iPhone X and older devices and you need to update your systems to reflect this..

Regards

Brendan

Hi @Brenmeister66,

Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience caused to you in relation to the handset not working the reason the handset stopped working is as iD Mobile no longer supports that model.
