When purchasing my sim only deal I gave my pac code but am receiving welcome emails with a new number on the order.Is this normal ? Will my own number still be retained when I switch ?

The number showing in your welcome emails is your temporary iD Mobile number that’s automatically assigned when the SIM-only order is first set up. This is used to activate your account while your number transfer (using your PAC code) is being processed.

Once your number transfer is fully completed, your existing mobile number will replace the temporary one, and you’ll continue using your original number as expected. You won’t lose it.

The reason you may be seeing the temporary number on your emails or initial order details is because your invoice and order confirmation are generated before the number transfer has fully completed. After the transfer goes through, your next invoice and account details will update to show your correct, ported number.
