Phone Number Transfer Issues

Hi,

Has anyone else had this issue and how did the solve it??

I got this phone from ID about 2 weeks ago. I kept my old number from O2 using a PAC Code. This transferred over fine.

Now when I’m texting people it is coming up as the number ID mobile gave me with the phone. They can’t text me on the number I’ve swapped to, it won’t deliver. However they can call me from it?

How do I rectify this?

Hi @HannahDryburgh

My apologies for the confusion, especially when calls work fine, but texts don’t. Don’t worry, this is actually a fairly common issue that can happen after a number transfer, and we can get it fixed.

When your number switches from another network (like O2) to iD Mobile, it’s normal for calls to update first while texts and iMessages can take a little longer to align with your transferred number. The phone itself may still be “remembering” your temporary iD Mobile number.

Please kindly follow the steps below

If you’re using an iPhone:

  1. Go to Settings > Phone > My Number and make sure it shows your old (transferred) number, not the iD Mobile one.
  1. If it doesn’t, tap it, edit the number manually, and restart your phone.
  1. Then go to Settings > Messages and turn iMessage off, wait 30 seconds, then turn it back on.
  1. Do the same for Settings > FaceTime — toggle it off and on again.
  1. After restarting, send a test text from the Messages app to see if it now displays your correct number.

If you’re using Android:

  1. Open Settings > About Phone > SIM Status and make sure your correct number is displayed.
  1. If not, go to Settings > Connections > SIM Manager (or similar depending on your model), and manually update your mobile number.
  1. Restart the phone, then send a test text.

Hi, I'm having this same issue. I have transferred my old number from Smarty mobile, WhatsApp is fine, and I seem to be getting phone calls ok, but when I text some of my contacts they say they are receiving it from the number that came with the phone and not my transferred number. I've tried the steps above but it all looks fine. It's been almost a week since my switch.

Hi @heatherkstone ,

I completely understand how frustrating it must be to have your number switched but still see texts showing from the temporary number. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

  1. For iPhone:

-Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive.
-Make sure your transferred number is selected under “You can be reached by iMessage at” and “Start new conversations from.”

  1. For Android:

- Open Messages > Settings > Advanced > SIM card messages (or similar depending on your device).
- Ensure your correct number is set as the default for SMS.

  1. Update your number in device settings

-On iPhone: Settings > Phone > My Number – update to your transferred number.
-On Android: Check SIM settings and update the number if needed.

  1. Restart your device
-Sometimes a simple restart helps refresh the network settings.

HI Lamiya,

Thankyou for your response, I have tried all of these things. I have found that if I turn off RCS messaging, normal SMS shows up my correct number. But RCS doesn't seem to update. Will it eventually fix itself or is it anything the network needs to update? I read about the MSISDN needing updating, is that something that needs to happen?

Thanks,

Heather
