Reconnecting a mobile number after account has been disconnected

Hoping you lovely people can help!

I left the UK in August 2025 and allowed my ID Mobile contract to lapse as I didn’t need it abroad.

The account has since been disconnected.

I need my old number back but the ID Mobile online chat staff are being very unhelpful and saying that because the account is deactivated my number is irretrievable. My understanding, however, is that it has been less than 6 months therefore the number has not yet been recycled and is still available for me to use.

Does anyone have any experience of this and tips on how to proceed? :)

TIA x

    Hi @lydial ,

Thank you for reaching out and explaining your situation,  I completely understand how important it is to keep your old number, especially if you’ve had it for a long time.
Unfortunately, once an iD Mobile account has been disconnected, the number is placed into a quarantine period before it’s eventually recycled. While this period is usually around 6 months, we can’t guarantee that the number will still be available or that it can be reassigned once the account is closed. This is why our online chat team advised that it’s not retrievable.

If the number has already been recycled, you’ll need to choose a new number or port one from another provider using a PAC code. We’ll guide you through whichever option works best for you.

    Hi Lamiya,

Thanks for your response, really helpful.

How do I find out whether its still available in quarantine or whether its been recycled?

And if its still available (the most likely scenario as its only been a few months) how can I work with ID to retrieve it please?

Did you port the number into iD Mobile? A ported number is returned to the originating network after a brief period once disconnected.

    Hi Paul,

Yes, but I’ve had this number since the Orange (!) days!

Can it be the one previous to ID mobile, or the original entirely?

    Thanks for your help x

Then the number should have been returned to EE by now.
