Question

Screen unlock pin for new phone

I’ve just received my new Samsung A36 and did the whole phone set-up including moving all data and apps from my old phone. I have set fingerprint screen unlock but I do not recall adding a screen pin.

The phone seem to have a screen lock pin which is unknown to me. Is there a default screen pin or a way to reset it without having to take my phone away ?

Hi @Cat140925  thanks for reaching out.

The default PIN is 1111. If you enter the wrong PIN three times in a row, your SIM will be blocked. To unblock your SIM, you'll need to key in your PUK, which can be obtained by contacting our customer services. If you enter the wrong PUK ten times in a row, your SIM will be blocked permanently, and you'll need a new SIM from iD.

The ‘default pin’ was unknown. I have tried 1111 and other obvious combinations. I have asked Samsung support but they were useless in helping. I have tried up to 10 combinations then I had to give it a hard reset and lost valuable data. Nevermind it is Samsung software failure. As per their own book you should be able to reset a PIN within 72 hours of setting up the phone. There was no option to reset the PIN...

Hi @Cat140925  I am sorry to hear this. My next option would be to take the handset into a Currys store and ask them to take a look at it for you. If the device is faulty and you have only just received it, we will be able to exchange this.
