Signal issue with iphone

I recently got a new contract with id mobile along with a new iPhone. Ever since then I have had issues with signal. My phone tells me I have signal but I don’t meaning that people are trying to call me and it is going straight to voicemail. I have been on live chat twice to ID about this as it has never happened with other networks/phones and their new solution is “you need to download the latest iOS update”! This has been happening before the last iOS update so that is not the case. I need to turn aeroplane mode on and off to reset the signal but I have no idea when I do or do not have signal as it always says I do! Has anyone else run into this before and shed some light on how you resolved it?
