Hi, recently got a new sim only deal to put on Mifi router. When ordering the id sales agent stated the sim would work in a router.

when I first put the sim in the router it worked and I connected devices to it in the motorhome.

forgot to charge the router and router went dead.

once recharged the sim no longer works and states limited access and cannot connect to the internet.

The APN is correct.

why has it decided not work ?

Thank you

Hi @Michaelam,

I’m really sorry you’re having trouble with this I can imagine how frustrating it is, especially when it was working initially and then suddenly stopped after the router powered down.

Let’s go through this clearly.

⚠️ Important point about routers (MiFi)

Although you were advised it would work, iD Mobile SIM-only plans are designed primarily for use in mobile phones, and service in routers/MiFi devices isn’t always guaranteed or supported long-term.

That said, since it did work before, there’s a good chance this is a settings or connection issue rather than a full restriction.

🔧 Things to try
1️⃣ Reinsert the SIM

  • Power off the router
  • Remove the SIM
  • Reinsert it carefully and power back on

This can help the router re-register on the network.

2️⃣ Manually re-enter APN

Even if it looks correct, re-enter it fully:

  • APN: id
  • Username: (leave blank)
  • Password: (leave blank)

Then save and restart the router.

3️⃣ Check network mode

If your router allows it:

  • Set network mode to 4G/LTE only (or Auto if that fails)

4️⃣ Check data / spend cap

  • Make sure your plan still has data available
  • Ensure there’s no bill cap or restriction blocking usage

5️⃣ Try the SIM in a phone

This is a key test:

  • Put the SIM into a phone and check if data works there

👉 If it works in a phone but not the router, the issue is likely device compatibility
👉 If it doesn’t work in a phone either, it may be an account or provisioning issue

6️⃣ Reset the router (if possible)

A factory reset of the MiFi device can clear any corrupted settings after the battery died.

❗ Why this may have happened

When the router lost power:

  • It may have lost network registration settings
  • Or failed to reconnect properly to the iD/Three network
  • Some routers can also behave inconsistently with certain SIM profiles
