Question

Sim Swap error when credit card company tries to send verification text

I upgraded my phone last July but in the last few days my credit card company has been unable to send verification code texts as they tell me they receive a “sim swap error” and this is something only the mobile provider can fix.

I have had to change to email verification instead. Not a huge problem but should not have been necessary.

I tried iD Mobile’s online chat but it led to what appears to be a call centre who have no idea what I’m talking about.

Can you help, please?

They are lying to you! What they told you is total nonsense.

Can you explain why you think that, please?

I should add that the credit card provider says their security checks detect this and therefore decline to send a text

Hi @HatWicCway ,

I understand why this is frustrating,  I can clarify what’s happening. A “SIM swap error” is not something iD Mobile can directly fix. Usually, this happens when a service (like your credit card provider) flags the SIM as “recently changed” or sees unusual network activity, which can prevent automatic text delivery for security reasons.

It’s not a fault with your SIM or iD Mobile, but a temporary security block imposed by the credit card company’s systems. They often have to verify via email or other methods until the system allows texts again.

If you like, we can check your account for any recent SIM changes or activations to ensure everything is correctly set up, which sometimes resolves these “SIM swap” flags.

Yes, please check my account as you suggest - thank you. It feels a bit like like a Catch-22 situation, although I your analysis sounds the most credible to me.

You answered your own question. The issue isn’t with iD Mobile. “ the credit card provider says their security checks detect this and therefore decline to send a text”.
