Switching to esim and keeping number

I am currently with iD and have a physical SIM. I am thinking about buying an iPhone Air which is eSIM only. How easy is it for me to switch and keep my current number?

    You will be able to keep your number easily. you will just need a replacement eSIM.

    So are you saying that I can get a replacement esim for my physical sim with the same number?
