Upgrade eSIM without changing phone number

I upgraded my soon to expire 12 month iD eSIM only plan to a new 24 month eSIM only plan. Unexpectedly, when I downloaded the new eSIM it has a new number. The information on the product info on the website suggested I would keep my old number when upgrading.

An upgraded mobile plan with a new number is completely useless to me (and I'mbaffled why anyone might want to do this as a default feature when upgrading with the same provider).

How do I reinstate my old number on the new eSIM?

I've had a similar problem. I wondered why I had to re-input all my account info just to get an upgrade. I now have my old number as the physical SIM on my phone and the new esim with a different number. I just want the old number and the new plan. Please could someone at id send me a pm to help me with this.
