Using Apple Watch with my iPhone and ID Mobile account.

I have just moved from Apple to Android from a tech perspective and would like to give my son my Apple cellular Watch. He is on ID Mobile and I wondered if he would be able to use this with this ID account.

Unfortunately @grahamdav, currently iD Mobile don’t support use of their eSIM products in wearable devices.

So does this mean there is no point buying an Apple watch if my Iphone uses ID mobile? I am not looking for a cellular phone but I want to be able to use Whats App over and safety features over WiFi.

It will work paired to the phone as long as they are both in Bluetooth range of each other. iD don’t support cellular data on Apple Watch yet where you can download an eSIM to your watch so you can use it to make calls/send messages etc without your phone been in range.

Thanks, so it will work using WiFi for say, Whats App but not for independent phone calls etc?

Yes as long as the watch is in Bluetooth range of your iPhone. WhatsApp features are limited on Apple Watch as they don’t have an official app.

You can:

  • Read notifications.
  • Reply to messages.
  • Send and receive messages.

Thank you. Such a pity they don’t align for everything. Seems odd when 3 works with Apple. Anyway, thanks for the info.

You have to have a cellular Apple Watch that costs more to buy initially and also 3 charge £7 a month for the privilege. Not a big demand for it I’d say. I have an Apple Watch Ultra that is cellular but happy using it as it comes. I always have my phone on me so no biggie. Only handy for people who want to go out and leave their phone behind for example going for a run.

The problem with having Bluetooth on all the time is that my calls often switch from I phone to ear pods intermittently if I take out my ear pods and later take calls. Bit worried that it would be chaotic keeping a phone linked to Bluetooth but I’d like and Apple phone to link to my phone. I don’t want a cellular phone, for all the reasons you mention. I must ponder.
