Question

Wifi Calling not used if weak Wifi Calling

At home I have a very weak to no mobile network signal so I use WiFi calling.

Unfortunately it seems that if there is even the slightest mobile signal the phone will use that instead of the WiFi and then the other person cannot hear me.

If I go into airplane mode with the Wifi enabled then the call is crystal clear.

Is this related to the provisioning of the SIM?

It happens with multiple phones and I have tried factory reset the phones and using an esim but none of this fixed it.

Jim.

Some Android devices have a prefer Wi-Fi Calling opotion in their settings, but it depends on the service provider, @jimbaxter

With an iPhone, you will manually need to toggle flight mode as required, to ensure you use WiFi Calling.

Incidentally, their is an ongoing service incident impacting WiFi Calling for iPhone users, running iOS 18.5 with Network Provider version 64.1.

Thanks @andewhite.  I have tried this with a Pixel 6 and Pixel 8 Android phone which both have this issue, there is no prefer WiFi Calling option on these phones and Google Support were willing to take the Pixel 8 in for repair but as it happens on 2 different phones I do not think that is the issue.

My wife's phone is a Pixel 7 Android phone with idMobile and she does not have the issue.

It was suggested to me that it could also be related to provisioning of my account so I thought I would investigate that as well.

Alas @jimbaxter, iD Mobile is one of the UK service providers that does not provide a prefer Wi-Fi Calling option in their network profile (for Pixel devices).

If you tried an EE SIM instead, I believe you’d have this option.

Apple has just released carrier profile 64.2 which fixes the issue.

Hey there @jimbaxter, there has recently been an issue with Wi-Fi calling on iPhones which Apple have recently resolved, so hopefully that should’ve helped in your case also.

Please let us know if you’re still having any issues now?

Thanks,

Tyler

Hi,

I am using an Android Pixel Phone so that does not help. Seems I need to change to a different mobile provider to fix this problem.

Best regards,

Jim
