Got the train to Greece, via France and Italy. No train in Greece, though we got a ferry and taxi to Athens. Same trip back. Was amazing!

My favourite holiday was a family trip to Cuba in 2008. We had glorious weather, lovely sandy beaches and an excellent all inclusive hotel. I'd love to go back one day

For our joint 80th birthday we found the most amazing holiday goingbto Hongkong for 2 nights then a cruise to Vietnam and 2 nights in singapore.   Wandering round Vietnam seeing the girls doing the most amazing embroidery was incredible.  Although we enjoyed Hongkong, Singapore was so clean and eaily our favourite.  Unfortunately Raffles were closed for renovation so didnt get my Singapore Sling.  Would love to revisit.

🌍 My Favourite Holiday in Morocco: A Journey Through the Sahara

There are holidays that you enjoy—and then there are holidays that leave a mark on your soul. For me, Morocco’s Sahara Desert did just that. It wasn't just a trip; it was an unforgettable adventure that blended breathtaking landscapes, deep culture, and the kind of quiet you can only find under a sky full of stars.

✈️ The Journey Begins

Our trip started in Marrakech, the bustling red city. After a few whirlwind days exploring the souks, sipping mint tea on rooftops, and getting pleasantly lost in the medina, we joined a small group headed toward Merzouga, the gateway to the Erg Chebbi dunes in the Sahara.

The journey took us through the High Atlas Mountains, past dramatic gorges, palm-filled valleys, and ancient kasbahs that seemed frozen in time. Every stop along the way felt like its own mini-adventure.

🐫 Into the Dunes

The real magic began when we reached the edge of the desert. Late in the afternoon, we mounted camels and began the slow trek into the golden sea of sand. There was something timeless and peaceful about moving through the silence, broken only by the soft footsteps of the camels.

As the sun began to set, the sky turned to fire—deep orange, pink, and violet hues reflecting off the dunes. I remember thinking, “This is one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen.”

🏕️ A Night Under the Stars

Our Berber-style camp was cozy and authentic, with traditional music, delicious tagine, and warm hospitality. We sat around the fire, sharing stories with fellow travelers and our guides, who spoke of nomadic life, the desert’s secrets, and ancient traditions.

Later that night, I wandered a little away from the camp and looked up. The sky was a blanket of stars so dense and brilliant, it felt like I could touch them. In that moment, surrounded by silence and starlight, I felt completely present—something we don’t often get in our busy lives.

💭 Why It’s My Favourite

This holiday wasn’t about fancy hotels or ticking off tourist attractions. It was about connection—to nature, to people, and to a slower, simpler rhythm of life. It reminded me that some of the richest experiences come from stepping far outside your comfort zone.

If you ever get the chance to visit Morocco, don’t miss the Sahara. It’s not just a place—it’s a feeling you carry with you long after the sand has been shaken from your shoes.

A 6-week overland safari from Nairobi to Johannesburg, stopping at the Serengeti, Zanzibar, Lake Malawi, Okavango Delta and many other amazing places!

It was so good I did it twice... first with my best friend then with my wife to be 10 years later 😀

My Best Holiday – Family Trip to Fethiye, Turkey

One of the best holidays I’ve ever had was a family trip to Fethiye, Turkey. We stayed at a beautiful all-inclusive resort, and from the moment we arrived, it felt like the perfect escape — sunny skies, amazing food, and total relaxation.

Fethiye itself is stunning, with clear turquoise water and scenic mountains in the background. Most days we just chilled by the pool or at the beach, but one of the highlights of the trip for me was trying jet skiing for the first time. I was nervous at first, but once I got going, the adrenaline kicked in. Racing across the water with the wind in my face and the open sea all around me was one of the most exciting things I’ve ever done. Definitely a moment I won’t forget.

We also explored the local area, took a boat trip to hidden beaches, and enjoyed huge buffet meals every day — especially the Turkish desserts! But what made the trip really special was just spending time with family. No distractions, just laughs, good food, and great memories.

That holiday had everything — fun, adventure, and proper family time. I’d go back in a second.

When I went to a Rhodes with my girlfriend in 2012. She’s now my wife. But it was our first holiday together abroad. She had never been away before but I had. So I thought to whisk her away. It was amazing! Great food!. On the way back we flew over the Olympic stadium when team GB were winning gold. What a sight that was!

One of my all-time favourite holidays has to be my trip to Dubai—especially the desert safari! Watching the sunset over the dunes was absolutely unreal, like something out of a movie. The dune bashing was such a rush, and sandboarding down the golden slopes was unforgettable. Definitely a once-in-a-lifetime experience I always think back to!

New Zealand was a fabulous getaway for three weeks. The two islands are very different. The highlights included horse riding over vast plains, skydiving over Lake Taupo, tobogganing around mesmerising landscape, flat bottom boat riding through teal green water with incredible farm stays and all you can eat buffets. The folk were welcoming and the weather was heavenly, simply unforgettable! There was no free roaming when I went, so that would be welcome now!

My favourite and most memorable holiday was a trip to the Island of Bougainville. We travelled first to Papua New Guinea, then flew to Bougainville via East New Britain.

The scenery was stunning and the people were so friendly, not many locals having encountered Europeans. We spent on a night on a remote island that had a stretch of coral reef that we viewed from a kayak.

The highlight of the trip was a visit to the mountains and experiencing the culture.

Rhodes old town  last summer . Beautiful streets, restaurants & cafes to explore in the day time & then by evening it transforms into a warren of fairy lights & open air restaurants that spring up in the streets.
crystal clear waters & the chance to charter a boat for the day whilst the skipper cooks lunch in the galley . Loved every minute.
