As the summer season begins to draw to a close, there's no better way to bid farewell to those warm, sun-soaked days than by embracing the vibrant and lively atmosphere of the August Bank Holiday weekend. With an array of exciting events lined up, including the iconic Notting Hill Carnival, the Victorious Festival in Portsmouth, and the delectable Foodies Festival in Oxfordshire, there's no shortage of reasons to step out and make the most of the long weekend. But amidst the festivities and jubilations, staying connected becomes all the more important.

Check out our invaluable tips and tricks to ensure that you remain connected while out and about during this bustling bank holiday weekend.

Check your coverage before you go

If you’re travelling or visiting anywhere in the UK this summer, our handy online coverage checker can show you what signal to expect before you go. You can search by postcode and view 3G, 4G and 5G coverage. Use the iD Coverage Checker now and stay one step ahead.

Use Wi-Fi calling

When coverage isn’t great, and you have access to a secure Wi-Fi connection, you should still be able to make calls and send messages with Wi-Fi calling, available on selected iD handsets. Before you go, check your phone is compatible. Turn Wi-Fi calling on within your phone settings and ensure your software is up to date.

Keep your signal strong

Sick of bad reception when you’re on the go? Keep your battery well-charged and avoid electronic devices – as this can affect your signal. Some protective phone cases may also impact your mobile reception if they’re made of signal-blocking materials. To check if your case is blocking your signal, just remove it and see if your connection improves.

And don’t forget to try turning your phone off and on again. Yes, that old chestnut really can do the trick.

Stay connected when travelling.

If you’re traveling by train, you may have the option to access a Wi-Fi connection. Wi-Fi calling is also available on some trains as a part of their Wi-Fi service. Find out which national rail trains across the UK have Wi-Fi now.

Travelling on the London Underground?  Well, iD Mobile customers can now use or our 4G and 5G network at various stations across the London Underground network, meaning you can now use your phone to browse your social media apps, contact friends or plan the rest of your journey, all while waiting for a train or travelling between.
