I’ve just checked both of those postcodes and I think I know what’s happening in your case, as it’s the exact same issue as mine!

Your phone is bouncing between 3G and 4G. When this happens the phone call either drops or you have nothing at all.

But have you enabled VoLTE on your phone?

Go to Settings → Connections → Mobile networks → 2nd option down VoLTE calls SIM 1 and toggle it on.

Thanks Daz. Yes just tried the VoLTE but no luck. I don’t particularly want to leave ID Mobile and I am wondering if a new provider will be any better or are they reliant on the same 4G Mast ?

Thanks Daz. The problem I have is that 4G is temporarily not working in my area, according to ID Mobile but I don’t know how long it will take to repair. The problem started a few days before the big storm and there is no information on the worldwide web to help. The website checker recommended by ID Mobile just says ‘’ we are having issue etc etc’’ but gives no time frame.

I missed this one!😮

The actual problem in my honest opinion is that Three UK have completely messed up the 3G switch-off and now the 4G can’t cope. Mines been showing as a known network issue or indeed an upgrade is happening but it always drops back to the same fault result.

The storm could well have damaged a mast in your area and therefore I could be wrong in your case. But at the end of the day there’s a lot of iD customers all playing the same record - the signal is sh*te. On the other hand being as some of these masts are being reconfigured to use 4G then maybe the storm could also have messed up this plan. But maybe the storm was just a coincidence…..

Thanks Daz. Yes just tried the VoLTE but no luck. I don’t particularly want to leave ID Mobile and I am wondering if a new provider will be any better or are they reliant on the same 4G Mast ?

Don’t confuse VoLTE and VoWIFI (aka WiFi calling). We need VoLTE to use our phones for voice calls.

No each of the current big 4 use their own gear. It will be the big 3 once Vodaphone and Three merge now they’ve been given the green light. What this means as they’ll then be the biggest service provider in the UK is only something we’ll find out in due course.

Thanks Daz, I am so grateful for your replies. Very informative for me, you certainly know this subject.

A friend told me to regularly update software so I have just done that but no luck. Then they recommended click flight mode on then off, again no luck and finally switch phone off and back on. Just done that and still no 4G.

No problem Mark.

I’m only knowledgeable due to having issues for years here. I’m borderline rural so we don’t get treated the same as the cities or large towns. If I had just £1 for every time I was told ‘there is not enough customers to warrant the extra investment’ I’d have built my own free for everyone mobile service by now lol.

Yep regular updates - grab them while you can as Samsung tend to treat their phones as out of date in around 4 years (don’t ask me how I know) and that’s the end of updates.

Again sliding into flight mode once in a while won’t do any harm either.

And the old trick of switching it off and on actually works in some cases.

You won’t get a decent 4G signal until they give out a decent 4G signal from their phone masts. If at home or round a mates WiFi calling - as in connect to a router but you still need a phone signal - would be one way of overcoming the poor 4G.

On some phones you can force it to only use 4G but Samsung’s don’t have 4G or LTE only. I wished they did.

@Tyler
My phone is Redme Note 11T 5G. phone specs: https://www.mi.com/in/product/redmi-note-11t-5g

I had O2 sim and was working fine. My number was ported on 6th Dec and since then I am having issues.

My data and Texts work fine. Only issue is with the making and receiving calls.

I had a detailed chat and did steps mentioned to remove sim and stop phone and turn the airplane mode on off etc steps. But did not help. Hence I was asked to go to Currys store.

I went to curry’s store and the store employee has imply replaced the sim and asked to try again. But no luck still.
When I try to make a call it simply try to dial and keep quite for some time and drops off with a beep. When someone calls, I do get miss call text message. I can also use data and the signal is good and shows 4G symbol next to it at times it shows 5G symbol too.

Followed all steps mentioned for Android phones.- https://community.idmobile.co.uk/3g%2D200/3g%2Dis%2Dbeing%2Dswitched%2Doff%2Dand%2Di%2Dcan%2Dt%2Dmake%2Dcalls%2Dwhat%2Ddo%2Di%2Dneed%2Dto%2Ddo%2D60533

APN details are set as expected and read only.

Same sim works fine in my wife’s phone (Samsung) but I have no luxury to grab that one.

It looks like some specific setting that to match the device and sim which is not clear. only an expert can provide help on this I guess. I am betting on you.

Hi @mallesh_kota

Unfortunately it seems like the Redmi Note 11T 5G is not an officially supported device on iD Mobile, therefore we cannot guarantee it’ll work with our network, sorry.

Tom

Hi Tyler / Tom and all Mobile ID Employees

I have no faith that ID Mobile are fixing any 4G mast in the Southport area.

I mean come on, how long does it take to fix a mast. Ukraine can fix their entire power grid overnight. I’m out, cancelling my contract.

How long does it take to repair a Mast even if that’s true.

I’m out.

I have no clue.

My area (and by that I mean a 10 mile radius) has been getting worse since the end of April. My signal got even worse back in September after the 3G switch-off.

Though my local masts, when I was with Tesco (whom piggyback on O2) have been requiring upgrades since 2016.

When you say out, you have no signal now or you’re leaving iD?

Daz, I’m gonna quit ID but I hope another provider has the solution ie is the Mast really down or need repairing. I’ve become suspicious to what I’m told .

I don’t want to leave my wi-fi on 24/7. I always switch my electrics off at night but the only choice I have now with ID is to use wi-fi.

On the signal checker, the various providers state whether 4G works indoors / outdoors. For me, it has to work indoors, do they really think I am gonna hang outside my window to make a call and how will I receive a call unless I stay in my garden 24/7. This entire 4G thing is a joke and the phone companies collecting our money and providing a sub-optimal service. Should be a public inquiry into them. A mobile phone is an essential item in our lives not a luxury entertainment device.

Hi @Levon

We couldn’t confirm how long it’d take to fix a mast, nor could we compare it to Ukraine’s power grid.

We wish you the best of luck with your new network.

Tom

Mark, your post (the one mentioning Ukraine) must have been sent for review as it wasn’t there when I replied previously. But now I understand your “I’m out bit”.

My wife has also completely lost faith in ID Mobile too. And mine has almost gone (there’s a very thin thread left). Technically some of these signal issues aren’t their fault as they are simply an MVNO using Three’s infrastructure. But some of it is, because when some of our fellow customers have replaced their SIM the ‘problem’ vanishes.

The fact is that whomever iD partner with isn’t our problem, iD’s problem is they are our service provider.

I was hanging on to a deluded idea that Three would have sorted the 4G by now, but clearly they haven’t. My wife and I are fortunate as we’re both on 30 day deals. We both upgraded to a better data offer and we have 11 days to go before our 30 day ‘contract’ is up. But there’s a very good chance we’ll be moving too.

For you, what I would suggest is 1) check how much iD will charge you if you leave your contract early and 2) ask around to see if other networks currently have a decent signal - you could end up buying out your contract, move to another provider and still have signal issues.

And yes I also totally get you knocking the power off overnight, more so with the cost of electric!

Plus you’re spot on, for many of us (myself included) our phones are essential.

Daz, well said and succint as usual. Thankyou for detailing the relationship with Three and how the SIM could be an issue. I didn’t realise all these factors may have an impact. If any of the ID employee’s read this then I sympathise with your plight and must say you are always professional and attempt to resolve what seems to be a longstanding fault with 4G (so Tyler/ Tom/ Natlie you are all appreciated). Good advice Daz and yes I will think twice about leaving, maybe the grass isn’t so green. My Ukraine analogy may be far fetched but I read that in China they resolve environmental / energy issues within days / weeks depending on the scale of the problem. What may take UK years to build a grid of phone masts or an electricity plant  or a hospital they will knock it up in 6 weeks and state of the art.

I only got the email notification at 09:34 this morning. So this a now the record...🙄

Honestly I mean this, thanks for those kind words. I’m only here to help where I can and I didn’t intend on sticking around for this long either. But after reading the plights of others I thought I might be able to offer something, even if it wasn’t a complete solution. I can’t type fast and often spend longer than normal checking I’ve included certain keywords in the hope a search result picks them up. Not for fame, just so others that don’t know what do to can read and hopefully know what their problem might be. If it does answer their problem then I’ll call that a win win.

As you may now know, there’s a lot of us in similar boats. I’m fortunate (or unfortunate depending on how you look at this) to able to pass on my knowledge, in the hope it helps others out there. Take this 3G switch off, away from the forums a few people reached out and from there it snowballed  - and I’m so happy it did. I’ve heard of some heartbreaking stories of our elderly generation effectively being cut off as they don’t either know how to reach support or indeed know where or how to tweak their phones so they continue to work. Or more frustratingly to discover their phone is no longer ‘good’ enough to function without 3G.

I GOT your bit about Ukraine. They have endured enough and what we’re going through is nothing compared to them. And yes the speed of their ‘repairs’ is pretty impressive. And with China they too don’t have 6 guys and 1 shovel all staring at a 2x2x2 inch pothole saying this’ll take a month to fill in. I could go on but we’re getting close the boundaries of the forum police. Though ‘they’ don’t scare me!

It’s good to hear from you Daz. Yes the mobile phone along with computers and the internet has made many older folks lives a misery instead of the utopian revolution it promised to be from the 1990’s onwards. I’m no great shakes myself with tech and unless you receive a good education in 4G/mobile data/ wi-fi from the assistant you buy your phone from then you are really up the swanny. ID Mobile for example, to find this page is pure luck in the help area. There is no email or phone number to contact anyone at ID Mobile and it seems to me that is not unusual these days; from banks to internet providers, utility companies to flight /travel companies, local councils (ever tried to get a replacement dustbin), once they got your money you are nothing but a moaning noise int their ear after that so they make it nigh on impossible to speak to anyone. ID Mobile got back to me in the chats and guess what the info was ‘’4G are’nt being repaired in my area and there is no info on time if they ever will’’, so there we have it ‘not in our lifetimes’. The answer is if you buy a phone then you have to leave your wi-fi on 24/7, as johnny rotten may have said ‘’ever thought you’ve been had’’, it’s a swindle.
