4G not working

SOS!!!!

When I am away from home, 80-90% of the time my phone has a 4G connection of between 2 & 3 bars. This would be fine normally but nothing loads! I am in BB7 postcode.

Whatsapp - nothing.

Emails - no chance.

Social media - nada.

On the odd occasion, when my signal actually drops onto 3G, it runs perfectly! 5G is non-existent.

I have 2 questions, is there something in my settings that is blocking 4G from working as it should? If not, is there a way I can block 4G from superseding 3G as that works fine?

Unfortunately @misherwood0706, current iOS version only has 4G, 5G On, and 5G Auto (default) settings options for mobile services using a mobile data connection.

Your phone would normally choose the best option but you can choose 3G as your preference in SIM settings.

Settings

Network

SIM

Preferred SIM settings

Choose 3G

Also try switching on Automatically Select Network.

Remember 3G being turned off in most areas over next few months.

From my own experience of my recent change to iD mobile and also comments on here, I have my doubts about the  quality of iD network and signal compared to the actual Three network that iD runs on.

My son uses Three and he gets far better connection than my iD connection when we are both in the same place🤔

Perhaps Three UK MVNO customers are given a lower priority / quality of service for their mobile data connections, or maybe the Three UK MVNO customers are throttled before Three UK customers, whenever the network is busy / congested.

There must be some justification for the higher prices a Three UK consumer pays, compared to someone who’s an MVNO consumer.

I have the exact same thing, it's beginning to get very frustrating.

My wife had a similar issue and ended up leaving for Tesco Mobile which is a million times better. I have over a year left on my deal with ID unfortunately but I will be giving them a call unless there is a solution provided. I will update you!

I’ve always had excellent customer service from Tesco - is this true of Tesco Mobile, @misherwood0706?

We have poor mobile signal at home, we need to use WiFi calling. Tesco mobile last I checked don't allow WiFi calling though OK service when my wife used them.

As for iD mobile, pay cheap pay twice. Wish I hadn't been tempted by the very low Pixel 8 price offer at Easter, stuck with them for 2 years now😖

***UPDATE*** I spent around 2 hours with their live chat service this afternoon, 2 hours I won’t ever get back! In a nutshell, it is what it is. Because they piggyback on other suppliers, there can be “congested traffic” when the signal drops onto 4G. I was advised to search for an operator manually (instead of having it on automatic) and select ID from the list. Fair to say, at the moment, this hasn’t changed a thing!
