5G dropped to H East Sussex

Just wondering if anybody else has problems with 5g in East Sussex / Bexhill.

I am new to ID and after 4-5 weeks of fantastic speed my connection has dropped to H+ or even H.

All phone settings are as they should. Live chat informed me that there is congestion in my area. But speed dropping from 600-700 on 5G to 10 on H almost over night?

I can't even connect to 4G

Okay @GSB2000, network congestion in any given area can be down to Three UK (the iD network partner) working on their cell towers and backhaul network in the given area, to prepare their network for 3G shutdown - due to be completed by end of 2024.

But THREE has not reported any trouble on their website.

ID has a message about congestion on the website

And if the low speed is caused by engineering work, why does ID tells me its congestion?

I couldn't browse my Ebay watch list last night, it was too slow.

Because your network operator is iD Mobile, @GSB2000, they'd need to ask Three UK about any 3G shutdown works in your area, but alas communications channels between iD and Three don’t seem very effective.

The congestion might be lack of capacity (cell towers / backhaul network) in your area, on the Three UK network. When the Three UK network is congested, they use their TrafficSense system to manage bandwidth.

You can try checking the real-world coverage for Three UK in your location at https://mastdata.com, which has actual signal strengths for many locations in the UK.

Congestion probably due to Three UK (the iD network partner) working on the cell tower/s in your area, preparing their infrastructure for 3G shutdown, @GSB2000

Radio frequencies used by their 3G services need to be reassigned to 4G and 5G services.

You might be looking at ~6-months of poor mobile data performance in that area.

A congestion message is also shown in my area @GSB2000, but seems completely inappropriate as I live in a rural location with a low population density.

Really annoying, just left one network (Vodafone/Lebara) because of low speed and now I am in the same situation again.

Perhaps take a look at the options for using the EE or O2 networks (in that location), @GSB2000

Hopefully https://mastdata.com has actual signal reception information for your area.

Tried O2 already which was a total disaster. 5Mbps tops and most of the time just 1-2Mbps.

But looks like things are back on track, got 5G back tonight with speeds around 250-300 Mbps.

Happy days🤞

All back on H+ again.

Still on H, really disappointed with ID.

Big 5G claims about speeds on the website and one has to click through several sites to end up at the status cecker to be told about “there may be heavy usage…...”   I can except that but not even 4G? It's so slow at times that I can't even load my watch list on Ebay.

Hey there @GSB2000, welcome to Community!

We're very sorry to hear you're having issues with coverage.

Please take a look at our coverage checker, which will show you what your signal strength should be like in your area, for all of 3G/4G/5G, for both indoors and outdoors.

https://www.idmobile.co.uk/help-and-advice/coverage#coverage-info

If you’re issue is mainly with 5G, it could be that your in a no/weak 5G area, which obviously means signal there on 5G would be poor.

Furthermore, please take a look at our network partner Three's network status checker, which will show if there is any maintenance or performance upgrades going on in your area. If the website states that's the case, then it's likely that this is disrupting your coverage, and we hope that this is resolved soon for you.

https://www.three.co.uk/support/network_and_coverage/network_support

Please take a look at both of these. If you believe you should be experiencing better signal than you are, or if the networks status checker on Three's website isn't showing any upgrades or maintenance, then please let us know and we can investigate further.

Thank you,

Tyler

Hi Tyler,

thanks for the links. But what good is it to me?

I have checked all this BEFORE I signed up with ID.

The first few weeks it was brilliant with speeds of 500mbs and more. And after 6 weeks total opposite.

And you expect me to search and find out what's the cause?

I would expect a short message to me as the paying customer “sorry we are having some problems or work etc and it will be solved by...”

Now I am in a 24month contract paying for dismal speeds with no information when it “could” get better.

Just back from a week abroad. Travelling through 4 different countries with excellent data speed, 4G and 5G.

Back home back to H+. And I can see the mast looking out of my window just a few hundred meters away.

Although ID doesn't really seem to be interested another update.

Everything I need to use data I have to put the phone in flight mode and reconnect to get 5G. Stays on 5G for a little while and then drops back to H

Hi @GSB2000

Please note that we aren’t a live chat service here on the community, we can’t always reply quickly and with volumes here being quite high, you may be waiting a while for an update, apologies for this, for a quicker service, we’d recommend using the Live Chat, Facebook or Twitter.

Do you have this issue in the UK in certain locations or all?

Please could you provide the postcode(s) where you have issues?

Recently it has improved. Still not as fast as at the beginning but at least I have 5G for longer periods. Just now and then it falls back to H.

Ic it doesn't get worse than that, I am OK.
