I had my bill cap on £12, and without realising ID charges for 0845 numbers, my bill was very quickly over £14.00 Why did the bill cap not cut off my conversation? They charge 45p per minute!

Yes I can see how that is confusing I am so sorry, I meant my billing month

Honestly @Ewib its really not a problem. I get flustered when I’m stressed too!

Very embarransing but it might be my stupidity. The £12 cap I assumed that would be the limit for your bill, but I just realised it could be £12 cap for calls that are charged outside your normal bill such as abroad, non-geographical numbers etc?

Please don’t feel embarrassed. We are all but human after all. But yes, to confirm, the billing cap is in addition to our normal phone bill. So if you don’t want to pay more than your normal amount set it to £0. If you have a go on an odd competition set it, as an example, to £5. The billing cap method that iD employ is a good way for us to manage our additional charges, not like some other providers that set a limit without our knowledge.

My plan is £8 per month, so if I want the bill to be no more than £12, I have to put <correction £4> cap? And if I put £12 on the bill cap, the bill can be as high as £20 and therefore it would not cut off my call  at £14++? So not really a ‘bill cap’ as much as an ‘extra charge cap’?

£8 per month normal bill and you’re happy to pay no more than £12 - yes set the billing cap to £4.

£8 per month normal bill and you’re happy to pay no more than £20 - yes set the billing cap to £12.

As you had set the billing cap to £14, it allowed you to call a number at 45p per minute, hence your total bill exceeding what you assumed it would be. The call cost you £6 !

But please don’t stress about it. We’ve gone through this together and we have found the reason. You now know about setting your billing cap to a level you’re happy with.

Should you ever need any further help, with any other phone related issue (or anything else for that matter), pop back and we’ll see if we can sort that out together too

edit. Just to add. If you set your billing cap to £0 and can’t make a call, that way you’ll know iD charge you for that call. I think it takes around 10 minutes for their system to catch up to your billing cap choice. So £0 and can’t call, adjust the billing cap, have a brew, make the call. End the call and set it back to £0.

Hey there @Ewib, sorry to hear that. Did you change your bill cap prior to making these phone calls?

Thanks,

Tyler

Hello Tyler

Yes, my cap was on £12 long before I made the call. My contract renewed on the 25th and  my bill for this month is already over £14.00. Non-geographical numbers are charged at 45p/minute.

I have now reduced the cap for next month, but don’t dare to try calling the non-geographical number to test it,  as I think ID charges a connection charge of 45p as well.

I should be refunded anything over my £12 cap in all fairness from ID, but they don’t seem to have a Customer Service and just Community.

I think I might be able to answer this @Ewib

When you renew your contract (well when I upgraded for sure as this happened to me) the billing cap gets set back to your highest limit.

However in my case I was alerted to the fact the billing cap was moved from my setting of £0.

I don’t think my contract has been renewed? The cap doesn’t seem to have changed and showed £12, so the cap just didn’t seem to work.

I’m confused @Ewib

You wrote “My contract renewed on the 25th”. I quoted it in the reply above.

Or did you mean your billing month renewed on the 25th? If you did I have no clue why it went over your £12 cap.
