I paid my bill last night as it was overdue I hadn't realised the direct debit didn't go out, but the bar on services has still not been lifted how long does this take

It can take 2-24 hours for services to resume once you make payment.
In the meantime it’s worth restarting the handset to see if that gets things working again.
