The only thing that may end up being the answer is that the Blackview phones are, according to iD, not compatible on their network.
But being as you’ve both had them working for some time and now they don’t, I would have to say that this might be related to the 3G switch off in your areas.
Do either of you have VoLTE or 4G calling enabled?
(numbers 3 and 4 mention enabling 4G/LTE and 4G calling/VoLTE but all of it is worth a read)
Hello
Thank you for getting in touch.
We are sorry to hear you are experiencing issues when making calls.
Is this happening when you call all numbers and certain ones?
Are you having any issues with data or texts?
Thanks,
Nat
I am not having issues with data and texts and other people appear able to ring me okay and I can answer and talk to them fine.
The problem seems to be when I try to phone anyone else.
The phone was working fine about week ago and I have not changed any of the settings
Thank you for confirming.
Can you please try a network reset on the handset?
Go to Settings > System > Reset options > Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth > Reset Settings.
Thanks,
Nat
Hi,
I also tried turning the phone off, leaving it for two minutes and then turning it back on again but that hasn't worked either.
I am at a bit of a loss as to what to try next
I'm having the same problem, tried a new sim, factory reset no difference. Returned shark 8, ordered shark 9 all was great then today couldn't ring out but could still receive calls. Baffling/annoying

Hi
Thanks very much for your reply.
You are right when you say that Blackview are not listed as being compatible with iD mobile. However my SIM free unlocked Blackview Shark 8 is the second Blackview smartphone I have used without any problems, (until now 😔) using an iD mobile SIM only contract.
In fact I have only ever had two Blackview smartphones and both have worked absolutely fine and without issue, (until now) on a SIM only contract with iD mobile.
Unfortunately now I may have to end up getting myself a new phone in order to make and receive calls with my iD mobile SIM.
I guess as you suggest it's got something to do with 3g switch off because until very recently I have been using my Blackview 4g phone with no issues at all.
Thank you for your help.

Sorry for your troubles.
From what you say it does appear to be an issue affecting Blackview smartphones.
I didn't realise until yesterday that iD mobile even had a published compatibility list and until then I had assumed, (apparently wrongly) that all 4g enabled phones work on all 4g networks.
Until very recently my Blackview phone worked absolutely fine on the iD network SIM only but now I cannot make or receive calls from most phones, (but bizarrely not all).

Happy to try and help Roy.
As I suggested things must be changing if these phones worked prior. IMHO as long as they’re UK models and without service provider installed software any phone should work. At the end of the day the service iD provide is just a SIM - why should the phone matter?
Hi
Thank you for getting back to us.
Unfortunately, if the steps provided have not helped to resolve the issue, it would point to the handset compatibility with the iD Mobile service and likely due to the 3G switch off.
We appreciate this must be frustrating and apologise for any inconvenience caused.
Once again, thanks
Nat
Hey there
This is indeed likely due to the 3G turn off that began rolling out recently. You can check if this is the case in your area below:
https://www.three.co.uk/support/network-and-coverage/coverage
Please read more below on what this is, and what to do:
https://community.idmobile.co.uk/3g-200/3g-is-being-switched-off-what-do-i-need-to-do-50979
If you have one of the phones from the below list, then 4G VOLTE and Wi-Fi calling should be able to be selected and work, and calls should still work:
If you have a phone that isn’t on this list, then it may or may not work, but we don’t officially support any phones outside of these and cannot say for sure if it will or not.
If the issue persists after following the troubleshooting above and confirming if your phone is approved, then please let us know here so we can investigate further. If your phone isn't listed above, you'll need to upgrade/get a new phone I'm afraid to receive calls. Texts and data should continue to work either way.
You will need a phone we support to use calls on our network.
Thanks,
Tyler
Hi
Many thanks all of you for both your time and your replies - I really appreciate you trying to help me.
Just to let you know:
I am now having to use my wife’s old Samsung phone on the iD mobile network.
I have tried an O2 sim card in my Blackview Shark 8 and it worked fine both being able to make and receive calls no trouble at all.
It does appear (as suggested) though for reasons I do not understand my 4g Blackview Shark 8 is incompatible with the iD mobile network since the 3g switch off, (in spite of the fact that it is a 4g phone and I have been with iD mobile for over two years using my 4g Blackview phones with no trouble at all - until now).
All the best to you all and good luck to fellow Blackview owner

Interestingly enough my 4g Blackview Shark 8, (which had worked perfectly well until recently - 3g switch off?) was able to receive and take a call from my wife’s Samsung phone on the same iD network bit no other phones including landlines. Although I could make my wife’s Samsung phone ring when she answered my phone would immediatly switch to “Line Busy” and cut me off.

Honestly Roy it was my pleasure. I do try to help as best as I can and when we don’t actually get the issue sorted it does put a downer on things. But we plod along.
I was going to say your BV Shark would likely work on another network. I don’t actually know what has changed within iD (apart from 3UK switching off 3G) but others have had ‘incompatible’ phones working for ages and then they just don’t. If you have VoLTE/4G calling then IMO they should continue to work, that’s the bit that gets me.
O2 started knocking their 3G off at the start of this year and it will be interesting to see if your phone continues to work on their network post switch-off.
The only other thing, maybe from time to time, is keep trying your phone on iD just in case it does then happen to then work - from reading various iD help pages/forum posts iD do test phones and when they ‘pass’ they show them as compatible.
Still bugs me why they stop though…..

Last night my brother-in-law allowed me to test my BV phone by putting his o2 contract SIM in it and it worked fine - I could both make and receive calls with no trouble at all - but just now a quick google search suggested that o2 have not yet turned off their 3g - so maybe that’s why?
(see link here: https://www.o2.co.uk/help/network-coverage-and-international/3g-switch-off)
The only things I can tell you is that my BV phone was working absolutely fine on the iD mobile network for over 18 months (before it didn’t a week or so ago) and last night it worked absolutely fine when I tried it with my brother-in-law’s o2 sim.
But why would a 4g phone be affected by a 3g switch off?
It’s beyond me that’s for sure.
I really appreciate your replies so thanks very much

Yes that would likely explain why it still works on O2 - but I do still wonder if your phone will continue to work after someone pulls the plug on 3G on O2.
And although 3UK have stated their 3G has gone it hasn’t actually fully gone yet - I can prove this at my home address and around the surrounding areas. Also had some confirmation that 3UK might not strictly be correct in their claim ← carefully worded as I wouldn’t want anyone to think 3UK are liars or are running behind schedule…..
If you didn’t know iD Mobile piggyback on the 3UK network.
O2 are the last of the (current) big 4 to switch theirs off - also just to fill your head with even more potentially useless info - 3UK and Vodafone have been given to go ahead to merge (Three Vodafone should be their brand name). So then there will only be 3 ‘big boys’ and what that means for us poor souls on iD as 3-V will be the biggest mobile provider in the UK is only something we’ll know in time - it’ll either be the best network or we’ll all be suffering with a congested network or we’ll be paying double what we’re paying now (our Government have stated they can merge with many stipulations, one of them being they can’t raise the prices customers pay for 3 years (apart from the normal April rises for those buying a phone on contract).

That’s the thing. If you have 4G data (which you do by the sounds of it) and either 4G calling or VoLTE available and enabled then I see no reason why it wouldn’t work. If it isn’t a UK spec model then this can cause issues post 3G switch-off as can service providers software (the latter is more of an issue with Samsung phones).
The only main thing about the 3G switch-off is regarding the calling aspect, it moves from 3G to 4G only - thinking about it does your phone have the option to force the phone to only use 4G? Or as I’m currently testing out for my own 4G calling issues I have installed an app called Force LTE from the Google Playstore and it does actually unlock an option on my phone which forces LTE (4G) only. Maybe look into this yourself if you have VoLTE or 4G calling available and enabled?
I suppose a valid experiment would be to borrow a SIM directly on the Three network and see if your phone still works at your current location. But even if it did I really can’t see iDM doing anything about this using their SIM.
Hi
I have taken my iD mobile SIM out of my wife's Samsung and back into my Blackview Shark 8 to have another go at solving this.
As you can see from the screenshots below:
The phone is showing 2 bars with HD.
The phone is showing that it is on the 3 UK network, that using mobile data is selected, that VoLTE is selected and that preferred network type is selected as 4g (recommended).
However under preferred networks iD is only showing as 2g/3g
I have tried inputting manually iD mobile 4g but when I do this the settings automatically reset themselves back to 2g/3g
As I said earlier it is all beyond me.
But now going to try my iD mobile SIM in my old Blackview phone to see if that makes any difference.
Hi
Just to let you know I tried my iD mobile SIM in my old Blackview A80 Pro (bought in December 2020) and it worked fine.
So weirdly the problem seems to only be when I try to make or receive calls on the iD mobile / Three network using my 2024 Blackview Shark 8 4g phone.
Clearly the phone is not faulty or else it wouldn’t work with my brother-in-laws O2 SIM.

So just like to know why?
Heard that in Australia networks have booted off certain mobile phone handsets when they turned off their 3g

So your current SIM working on the BV brand tells me there might be more to this. I know some iDM customers whom bought their phones direct from iDM years ago also stopped working after their 3G was switched off and some did then find although they bought it from iDM is was no longer deemed compatible. One might start to think this is just a means of forcing us to buy newer phones…..
Forgive me if you already done this, but have you tried a replacement SIM, you can pick one up for free from Currys - you now may need some form of ID as iDM have upped their secuirty, but they should be able to give you one. You then need to activate yourself. Others whom tried a replacement SIM found their phone magically worked on 4G with a new SIM - it transpires there are some older style SIMs floating about and the newer ones must have something tweaked on them - no idea what but might be worth a punt.
Indeed this isn’t your phone, just ‘improvements’ in network tech🙄

Hi
No, I haven’t yet tried a new iD mobile SIM in my Blackview Shark 8, (purchased May 2024) but when my wife and I first switched from Tesco Mobile in July 2023 we were both sent replacement SIMS then.
My wife’s phone is a Samsung and she has not experienced any problems whatsoever the whole time we have been with iD mobile - nor had I until very recently!
My wife’s old Samsung phone works fine with my iD mobile contract SIM and my old Blackview A80 Pro, (purchased December 2020) also works fine with my iD Mobile contract SIM.
For this reason I have concluded that the problem caannot be being caused by my iD mobile SIM nor can it being caused by my Blackview Shark 8, (as this worked fine on the iD mobile network unril very recently and also works fine with my brother-in-laws o2 contract SIM) therefore the conclusion I have made is that it’s got something to do with the 3g swirch off, (as this is the only thing that has changed).
Thanks once again for your interest
All the best

As my phone is no longer capable of making or receiving calls on the iD mobile network I was wondering if iD mobile would be willing to release me early from my 12 month contract with them - I think it is due to finish in September, (although myself and my wife have been with iD mobile for around 20 months in total I signed us up to a 12 month contract when an offer price became available to me, however now I can no longer use my phone on the iD mobile network I would like to be released from this contract so that I can try another network)
Many thanks

Hi
Given the circumstances, would iD mobile be willing to release me early, (without penalty) from my 12 month contract with them?
