calls cut out since three network went down


As title says since the tree network went down calls drop, I can be talking to someone for say 8 minutes or 14 minutes and then instant cut out as if one of us hung up. Doesn’t happen on my sons phone which is 02.

This started after the three network went down where at the time when it was down my IDmobile phone couldn’t even make 999 calls. I tried 999 when no calls were working and 999 failed too.

So now I have a phone that cant handle long phonecalls it cant seem to last in a phonecall much longer than 15 minutes.

Thanks for your reply and sorry for my reply being so slow. The model phone is

SIM Free Nokia 110 4G Mobile Phone - Arctic Purple

 

After about 10 minutes in a phonecall it will cut out any minute its rare it will make it past 15 minutes and its been like this since the three outage where i could make no calls at all not even 999.

 

I will phone ID mobile tomorrow since i am disabled i am allowed to phone their support line although if the phonecall with them goes over 10 minutes its likely to cut out!

Edit: I dont know if its everywhere or just my location because i dont get out that much due to disability.

The Nokia 110 4G is not a phone that’s compatible with the iD Mobile network ​@Susan998 

 

Their list used to show most phones even if they were not compatible, now it appears they only list those that are.

 

If yours worked prior to the outage it kinds means either 3UK were doing a final flush phones that don’t work or the outage was also around the time the 3G was turned off in your area.

 

Should your phone continue to drop there should be other ways to contact the iD vulnerability team

But the phone is 4G, their not turning 4G off? Why do they still sell this phone if networks are dropping its support? Also its weird the dropouts started INSTANTLY after the three outage was fixed. If the 3G or network it was using has been turned off, why can it even connect and make phonecalls at all even for 10 minutes?

It gives you the option between 2g/3g and 4g in its settings with the ability to turn data on and off. It even has a little slow old web browser made by Opera.

I actually purchased this phone thinking since its 4G it would be futureproof.

If my sons 02 simcard is put inside it btw it works fine its just  Idmobile or more likely Three since it started since the outage.

I understand its 4G capable and I honestly know this is frustrating. Most phones worked when 3G was still available (it only had to be unlocked to all UK networks) as our calls used 3G (and 2G) but alas with this wonderful 4G evolution there are now many phones that simply won’t work on the iDM network, even those sold as 4G and being used in 4G areas.

Because some phone manufacturers may not be aware of what is now required for this 4G calling (aka VoLTE). And your phone would probably work absolutely fine on another network (though not sure about others also using 3UK’s infrastructure). I have no clue why iDM have limitations on which phones will or won’t work. You’d rightly think having a 4G phone would suffice.

We’ll never likely know what caused that outage, but I know for sure the outage only affected 4G. My area has had it’s 3G turned off (3UK confirmed this) however I can still access 3G and by manually selecting 3G only I was able to make and receive calls even when the majority of those affected couldn’t.

In your case (post outage) the likely reason it works for a while is it is 4G capable but their system sees it as not compatible. However what I would suggest is to request a replacement SIM. For some replacing the SIM fixes their calling issue.

If iD reply they may well say the phone might work but they don’t support it.

You could try setting it to 3G only and see if the calls work (it does for me) but even if there are remnants of 3G in your area eventually these will go for good as 3UK are reusing the 3G antennae for 4G. So if it does work for how long is unknown.

And that’s the frustrating bit. Many (myself included until I found out there was a list) would naturally assume any UK sold 4G phone would work on any UK 4G network. And that list wasn’t the first thing I even considered when joining iDM.

(I written a reply as I read your post) - that means O2 works on that phone.

But please try a replacement SIM first before doing anything else - it might fix this or it might not, but we can go from there.

I think your right if i connect the Nokia phone to 2g/3g mode it connects but has a X over the signal and says emergency calls only, i think its connecting to another networks 3g which it can only use for emergnacy calls.

I guess i could try another sim. I can’t use smartphones cant see them well enough bad vision even if their screen is huge. I need buttons i can feel i do it by touch an i cant do that on a smartphone screen.

It likely to be connecting to Vodafone. Theirs is currently the fall back network for emergency services

Please do try another SIM first - ask their vulnerability team to send one out to you, or if they can’t we can ask a member of staff on here to arrange this for you.

Maybe speak to their vulnerability team and mention you need a button type keypad to see if they can recommend a suitable phone. If your phone is recently purchased see if Argos would allow you to return it and mention its not compatible for your current network.

I will try a new sim first caus it does seem like it should work, for a start it CAN make calls they just drop after 10-15minutes and 2nd on the Argos website for its specs it says this.

“ Hear and be heard better: Equipped with 4G and HD voice support, the Nokia 110 4G delivers stellar call quality that makes you feel like you're in the same room.”

4G and HD voice support, and I do see it say “HD” on some but not all calls in the same location.

I See what IDmobile support has to say about this.

Argos will be difficult to deal with their returns policy can be quite strict as of late, once you open the box of an electronic item with Argos your stuck with it unless it has a fault. Will they  class this as a fault? I am not so sure they might say something like “Well its not a fault with the phone its a incompatibility issue with the network”

Selling the phone on eBay if i do need to get rid of it might be easier than dealing with Argos.

I just found the  Nokia 110 4G on the devicesupport dot three not uk website three themselves says it should work! Pasting from the Three device support website.

Network
VoLTE (4G calling in UK)
 
3G
 
4G
 

All has a tick for yes but 5G has a tick for no which is normal.

 

So this is quite strange, although IDmobile dont list this phone as compatible Three themselves do!

I really hope it does. But your predicament has bugged me and forgive me if you’ve already mentioned this but have you enabled VoLTE? Three in Ireland even have a how to on their website so you’d think 3UK allows it (though iDM say they don’t).

Menu → scroll down and select settings → scroll down and select Connections → scroll down and select VoLTE → (your SIM should be in slot 1) select SIM1and this should have enabled VoLTE.

 

And yes see if support can, well, actually support you.

 

You’re probably right about Argos as like you say it does work on O2. But there’s no harm in asking them why you need to return it (if a new SIM doesn’t sort this).

Yes you could sell it on if that’s going to end up being a better option, or depending on when you took out your iD contract maybe consider moving to O2?

My simcard is in slot 2 is does it have to be in slot one for it to work properly then? I think i put it in the wrong slot when i first set it up but it worked till the tree outage so i never changed it, because it def says the simcard is in slot 2. I do get the HD calling logo come up tho when i make calls when its set to 4G mode which seems to indicate its using 4G to make the call.

My son is on Giffgaff which runs off 02 and says it works great but he uses a smartphone Samsung thing not a Nokia old  type phone cause he is not blind. So Giffgaff might be a good choice to change to.

I only need a cheap package because i never use any data and i never text only make phonecalls all i need is unlimited calls so i can go for very cheap packages and my son tells me Giffgaff do some very cheap packages with low data but unlimited uk calls which is all i need.

Three of your replies did not generate an email notification and the two I’ve partially quoted were not showing until after 10:45 this morning. We both found the same website regarding your phone, I still have it opened on my phone.

For the gone for review alert you saw - Because I’m mostly on these forums (though I’m about ready to walk if I’m being honest) I get the same alert or a more critical one saying something’s has gone wrong (the latter never gets posted so its a complete waste of my time) - anyway its nothing you’ve done it happens to many of us.

Actually yes it does and that’s good to know yours isn’t. I don’t know the reason why but iD state it somewhere that their preferred location for their SIMs is in slot 1.

Quick pop in slot 1 and see if this improves the call timer 🤞

That sounds like you already have VoLTE set up then. The HD is the tell tale.

O2 only started their 3G switch off at the start of this year (they’re the last ones to do this). He may need to tweak his phone to use VoLTE too. I have no clue how GG would be now or in the future but if moving the SIM to slot 1 (and/or a replacement SIM - take the old one out after activating the new one) doesn’t fix this and you want to use that phone (I would personally) you’d really have to try another provider.

As a side note - HMD bought Nokia in 2014 and on 2 February 2024 HMD announced they are phasing out the Nokia brand name and will be only calling theirs HMD phones. That might explain why iD used to list almost every known phone (whether it was compatible or not) and not iD’s list has removed most that are not compatible.

Same here, only paying a very cheap price. I also don’t actually need a high data bundle but its essential that I have a phone that I can make and receive calls on - I’ve been suffering with poor signal issues and its only for that reason I started helping others. Its a massive shame but it does look like my wife and I will have no other choice but to move from iDM too, though in my case its 3UK at fault, not iDM - I also can’t fault one of their managers for his efforts in trying to resolve my issues but we’re running out of things to try and my wife has most certainly lost her patience!

Yeah IDmobile are acting very strange with blocking posts when all that is being talked about is phones.

I have put the simcard in slot 1, I am still getting the HD calling logo coming up it remains to be seen yet if this has fixed it but we shall see. I am trying to think who I can phone for 15 minutes or so to test it.

Hello Natalie I am Susans son. Why have you banned her when she did nothing against your terms no racism no swearing? Just trying to get this phone sorted.

Because of YOU we are gonna leave IDmobile now and not try anymore canceling the direct debit now.

I have also got 2 of my friends one of which is with you on unlimited data to cancel because they find it so disgusting and they are going to join me on giffgaff

My mum is going to phone IDmobile tomorrow and make an official complaint ABOUT YOU Natalie and how you made my mental illness worse and how you made me get two friends to leave your company because of how disgusted they were with your treatment of my mum on here.

 

In my opinion whoever blacklisted my mum on this forum should be fired.

I may also talk to my solicitor becuase this is rediculious.

 

Moderators of forums often let power to go their head i think that is what might have happened here was it you?

 

Doesn’t matter tho you cost your company a lot of money specialy with the loss  one my friend who pays you for unlimited data and had no plans to leave. I am sure they are pleased with your work.

When a post gets sent for review its because of an automated anti spam system, which isn’t actually controlled by iD Mobile, these forums are powered by Gainsight and its their system flagging our posts. At that point iDM staff have to read the post before posting it up. If it wasn’t for all these spammers and scammers they wouldn’t need to implement any anti this that or the other in the 1st place.

However from one customer to another, your mum’s account will be put into default and iD will eventually send the debt off to their debt collectors.

Are you 100% sure your mum got banned because you can still post via her community account? What did Natalie do as thus far I can only see one reply?

The only moderators are iD staff. For the most part their main job involves asking or answering questions and deleting personal content, like if I accidentally posted my phone number (but this only tends to happen if another customer raises it). They also check the content of posts that automatically get sent for review, things like that.

Debt collecters cant come here becuase my street is off limits ot them due to all the violence. A debt collecter on my street got killed in 2022. So good luck with that.

Are you 100% sure your mum got banned because you can still post via her community account? What did Natalie do as thus far I can only see one reply?

My friends arent stupid enough to cancel before their contract ended its fine and one has to wait 4 months. All their phones are 5G like mine so will work on any network no problem there.

 

If one of them by a short chance did cancel their direct debit out of contract i will happily pay it off for them to get them out of the contract. Thanks to crypto i am worth a lot of money. I used to purchase bitcoin all the way back when it was less than £10 for one.

All legal and taxed. I dunno if my mum is in contract or not but i am going to try to get IDmobile to break the contract becuase they cant deliver the service and ask for compensation for my mum not being able to use her mobile since the three outage.

Also we will make a complaint.

 

I notice we have now been locked out of the ID mobile site so i cant even view my mums IDmobile account to check about contract etc was that you? It was working earlier today.

The crysis team is on the way because you triggered my mental illness and i have a habbit of letting things get to me and do suicide attempts. I may end up sectioned for 24 hours that will mentioned to IDmobile too.

I will make it a mission to warn and stop as many people joining IDmobile as i can. Whatever forum website or in real life or social media site if i see someone reccomend IDmobile i will tell them what IDmobile are truly like. Having an opinion like that is not illegal.

 

Also like i said Debt collectors arent allowed in this area too violent cant say why now that probably would break this sites rules explaining whats going on here.

When a post gets sent for review its because of an automated anti spam system, which isn’t actually controlled by iD Mobile, these forums are powered by Gainsight and its their system flagging our posts. At that point iDM staff have to read the post before posting it up. If it wasn’t for all these spammers and scammers they wouldn’t need to implement any anti this that or the other in the 1st place.

As I mentioned your mum wasn’t banned, it was just an automated system putting them into an area only staff can see. If the forum account was banned then you wouldn’t have been able to have posted anything.

Regarding the cancelling of the DD. I totally understand how frustrating this all is and thus understand why you’ve probably already cancelled the DD. However from one customer to another, your mum’s account will be put into default and iD will eventually send the debt off to their debt collectors.

If your area has lost 3G from O2 (they started their 3G switch-off at the start of this year) and you have a Samsung then yours must be okay.

Cheers my mums plan was pay monthly I just cancelled it online on the IDmobile website, I think we have have to pay £6 one more time thats it. Goodbye.

Also you have lied to me some of my posts never showed up at all and it was after I proved one of you wrong about the phone not being incompatible with the three network. The three device website shows its comtible but the post i posted about that NEVER SHOWED UP it still hasn’t and i know none of my posts will show up now.

I have confirmed all my friends were not stupid accept the one that is on contract and has to wait 4-5 months to leave (he is on a £10 a month contract) and he knows he is in a contract. He is going to council when it ends, He wants to talk to your live chat about how to cancel properly.

The other friends were on monthly rolling contracts so can leave anytime like i was on, I normally go for 1 month contracts for mobile so you worried me for a second when you said debt collectors and contracts.

I am Autistic and have severe mental health issues, My mum is blind and i have to type for her that is why she needs a touch phone.

I have typed what she said to say but I am talking myself for her right now.

We are still going to make a complaint and ask why my harmless post about the three network device website that shows what devices are supported post i sent NEVER APPEARING so no moderator of yours approved it and it was harmless, if the link to that site was bad you could have just deleted the url and left the rest. I have seen Giffgaff remove certain links to websites but they leave the rest of the post.

On giffgaff you can talk about all sensible stuff and even give link to mainstream media sites like the bbc or news sites you can link to hobby sites like to do with drones everywhere they appear to run on a much less evil comunist system where you actually have free speech and delete posts that are bad after there posted normally quite quick. But still they go through first.

I once saw someone say on Giffgaff community “I want to die” and it went on for over 200 replies of people telling the person how to get help and talking about it etc till they decided to lock the thread so no1 could reply. and no1 got banned.

I dont think they even banned the post starter who said he wanted to die cause he replied near the end of the post saying he was still alive.

I have cancelled and my contract ends on the 8th of march with £0,00 owed. This phone is meant to work on 4g networks and it did on yours and HD which means 4G calling appears hwen it makes a call and if it couldn’t connect to a 4G network with the three network 3g network off HOW IS IT EVEN MAKING CALLS its issue is they cut out after 10 to 15 minutes and it all started after that big outage where even 999 wouldn’t work.

I am going to get my mum to make a complaint and request why my post about where i proved three themselves said my phone is supported on their new 4g network, then I am going to ask her to request this months bill we already paid which is why we owe £0,00 and it ends on the 8th of march when our next bill was due to be paid back as compensation for the extreme stress it has caused myself to the point i had to call the crysis team and my mum who is registered blind and has to cope with the stress of not having a working phone for, how long has it been now? A week, over a week?

Three of your replies did not generate an email notification and the two I’ve partially quoted were not showing until after 10:45 this morning. We both found the same website regarding your phone, I still have it opened on my phone.

For the gone for review alert you saw - Because I’m mostly on these forums (though I’m about ready to walk if I’m being honest) I get the same alert or a more critical one saying something’s has gone wrong (the latter never gets posted so its a complete waste of my time) - anyway its nothing you’ve done it happens to many of us.

The post that guy snipped is from a post i sent that NEVER APPEARED yet it let it him say what i posted??? i have taken a screenshot of that as proof before you delete this thread.

  2. It looks like you’ve decided to switch to GiffGaff. I wish you well with your new network. If you haven’t done so already, here are some steps to get your PAC, so you can move your number over.
  • Via Text.

Using your iD Mobile SIM, text PAC & your Date of Birth (DDMMYY) to 65075 or STAC & your Date of Birth (DDMMYY) to 75075

  • In the iD Mobile app or My Account Online.

To disconnect in the iD Mobile app or My Account Online, you can:

  1. Open the iD Mobile app or log-in to My Account Online.
  2. Tap ‘Plan’.
  3. Tap ‘Leave iD’.
  4. Tap ‘Get PAC code’ or ‘Get STAC code’.
  5. Tap ‘Yes, proceed’.
  • Live Chat.
