Can't make or receive calls

For some reason today my Alcatel 3L phone no longer makes or received calls. In the notification bar there are icons consisting of a telephone handset and moving bars when either a call (in or outgoing) is in progress. I don't believe it is a phone setting because it works fine when my partners SIM card is inserted in my Alcatel. When my SIM card is his phone it exhibits the same problem. This leads me to believe that it is either a network or SIM card issue.

Does anyone have any idea how this might be resolved?

Right, so your issue is more than likely related to the loss of 3G. Three (and iD use Three) started turning off 3G starting in September with a provisional ‘all gone’ by the end of the year.

Your partners SIM may still have 3G available - though eventually all networks will lose 3G. This explains why his still works and yours doesn’t.

So, what to do?

Well, look here for starters

You need to be looking for how to enable 4G or LTE, but either MUST have VoLTE - google your model if you’re not sure how or where to look for those options/menus.

Hi there @Magdathegreek

Is your other half's SIM also an iD SIM?

Has your area (use your postcode) recently lost 3G

https://www.three.co.uk/content/experience-fragments/threedigital/uk/en/site/mvno/coverage-checker/idmobile.html

It defaults to 4G, just toggle it between 3G and 5G.

Also, according to iD’s compatibility page, your phone is on the list, which is good.

My partners SIM is RWG Mobile and his phone is a Samsung 7. Interestingly on my phone the signal strength icon has a "greyed out" 4G icon above it.

Yet the SIM status page reports:

Signal Strength

-100dBm 40 asu

Mobile network type

4G

Service state

In service

Roaming

Not roaming

Mobile Network Statec

Disonnected

Have just used your provided link and it reports that 3G is unavailable but doesn't say when it disappeared.

All sorted now although finding the VoLTE switch wasn't easy as all the suggestions bore no resemblance to what was actually needed to navigate to. Although it did give me a handle on where to look. The Access Point Name fields required no editing.

Thank you Daz!

That’s the problem sometimes with guides, they don’t cover every type of phone.

Anyway, brilliant, happy to have helped!!👍
