charged for calling 0800 UK number whilst on holiday in Spain

Hi,

I was charged all of my bill cap allowance (£5) for waiting on hold when phoning an 0800 number back home.

i don’t understand why I was charged and would like to claim for a refund of the charges.

Through looking at the ID Mobile website it says that calls to 08 numbers whilst abroad are blocked so ID shouldnt have connected my call.

here’s the link:

https://www.idmobile.co.uk/help-and-advice/international-and-roaming-charges

I’ve attached a screengrab of this too.

does anyone have any advice on the best way to claim a refund?

many thanks.

Dan

Hi @DanB123 & @NLC

0800 numbers called from abroad would be charged as premium, we’d recommend the below;

I’ve had the same problem calling British Airways 0800 from Greece in June - was charged £7.88 and was on hold for most of the call! Wait to see any bright answers

Missing the point! You state that they’re blocked so no action should be needed… they’re clearly not blocked and they do charge!

Hi Tom,

thanks for reaching out but NLC is correct.

As the website states the calls are blocked i shouldn’t be charged, it shouldn’t have connected.

I think the facilities of the system and the international roaming information is misaligned.

I’ve contacted customer services on the phone and once i receive my bill i’ll be requesting a refund via a complaint.

@NLC i hope you manage to get a refund too, i’ll post here as to how difficult/easy it was …

Yes I was refunded but only if I allowed them to reset my “over charges” from £10 down to £zero….. which I allowed albeit I can probably change if I need to!

Hi @NLC & @DanB123

Please could you link the screenshotted page where it says we’d block these calls from being available?

Hi @DanB123,

This would refer to calls with someone with a £0 cap as these calls would be blocked automatically.

As you are abroad and called a 08 number you have been charged correctly.

Hi Kash,

Thanks for replying.

i don’t agree with that I’m afraid as it does not say that on the page.

if indeed that is the case then ID should update their site accordingly as the information on the site is incorrect.

Which would still mean I’m entitled to a refund.

thanks,

Dan

Hi @DanB123

Unfortunately it does not mean that.

Charges would apply while calling 0800 number while abroad.
