Corrupted downloads

I have constantly been having problems downloading files using id mobile. They often fail at 99%. I never had this with other mobile broadband providers.

They always download ok if I use wi-fi hotspot (an expensive workaround), so its not the websites.

Is there anything that could be causing this?

Hello @MLeonard1975

Thank you for getting in touch.

We are sorry to hear this is happening.

Can you please confirm the make/model of your handset and if the problem is occurring when using mobile or WiFi?

Thanks,

Nat

Hi @MLeonard1975,

Have you tested the SIM in another handset?

Can you please confirm your postcode so that we can check the coverage in your area?

Kash

Hi,

I tried testing the sim in a mobile broadband dongle. It had the same download problems as the phone.

My postcode is SN140HT .

Hey there @MLeonard1975, sorry to hear that.

Firstly, please note we don’t officially support the usage of our SIM cards outside of our approved handsets, so it may not work in the dongle regardless to any other issues that may be occuring.

When having the issue, are you connected to 3G, 4G or 5G please?

Thanks,

Tyler

Hi,

I connect at 4G

I’m pretty sure its nothing to do with the signal. It’s only certain websites that I constantly have this problem with. Other websites always download ok every time.

Not saying you are, but if some downloads fall into their adult content filtering criteria this may be stopping them downloading correctly - pure guess on my part.

But you could try turning this off and then see if they download to 100%

The other thing is have to set the phone and router to use 4G only (rather than 5G/4G/3G/2G auto connect)?

If not the signal could be dropping to 3G. Using the provided postcode and 3UK’s coverage map - https://www.three.co.uk/support/network-and-coverage/coverage - it shows 3G as patchy (even though it is supposed to be off now), 4G is claimed to be good indoors and outdoors and 5G is only good outdoors.

Hi @MLeonard1975

Thanks for your reply.

If it is only specific websites, checking the link sent by @Daz_S possibly might help (thank you @Daz_S )

If you are able to, try also switching the browser you are downloading from to see if this helps.

Thanks,

Hi,

Turning off Adult Content filter made no difference.

There seems to be no way of setting my phone to 4G only.

Chrome, Firefox and Edge browsers all fail.

Opera browser with built in VPN set to off fails.

I had some success with Opera browser if built in VPN was set to on.

The only other thing I can think of is googles safe search (but I have no clue if this would block a download at 99%).

Did you try toggling flight/airplane mode between tests (more so after toggling off adult content to release their DNS)?

Your Motorola could be like my older style Samsung - I have LTE/3G/2G auto connect (yours might say 4G/3G/2G and can’t use the settings on the phone to use LTE (4G) only. I had to install a 3rd party app from the playstore to unlock that ability on my phone.

But using Opera with a VPN kinds points to some sort of block - search or DNS related

Thanks @MLeonard1975

Please do check your browser settings but also if possible, can you try your SIM in another handset to test the download?

This will help rule out a SIM fault.
