Hi, we are currently living in Japan but are planning to return home to the UK later on this year. However, before we return home we need a UK phone number so we can start organising things. Will it be possible to purchase a phone plan while we are in Japan or do we need to wait until we arrive in the UK. If we can buy a plan while in Japan can we download it etc. We have good wifi etc and our phone takes esims.

As long as you have 3 years UK address history for the past 3 years and a UK bank account you can apply for a contract.

To purchase an iD Mobile contract plan you will need 3 years of address history. If you’re purchasing a Pay As You Go plan you will need a UK bank account to purchase. For both, you’ll need a UK home address, it may be best to await purchasing until you’re in the UK.

Hi Tom, thanks for the info we have a uk address and bank accounts, we are currently renting out our house but want to organise stuff before go back. So will it be possible to purchase a plan prior to the move home?
