I know this has been discussed before but i need to re-open this!

I have a SIM only deal and when i send texts to some people my phone number comes up incorrect with them.  But its only to some people!

I use normal Messaging and my settings are exactly the same as my partners and she doesn’t have any issues.  Te last time this was mentioned, ‘Google messaging’ was blamed - i dont have Google messaging, just simple messaging as part of my Samsung phone.

When i check my account with ID my correct phone number is showing and there is no trace of an incorrect number.

Any ideas??

Hi there @shepherdm

These others that get the wrong number, are these Android users or iPhone or a mixture of the two?

In any case it sounds like there might be remnants of possibly RCS left behind on the phone, but I could be wrong. This help page gives various ‘solutions’

(maybe read from the other Android phones)

Go to the messenger on your phone and check the number allocated to RCS texts. If it shows a different number to your current one then go to play store and search for Google messages.

Uninstall the updates and then reinstall them. You will not lose your messages. Then open messenger and follow the prompts to register RCS and within five minutes everything will be updated

I've just spent over an hour rebooting, renaming SIM, clearing cache and this was the only thing that worked for me.

It seems a common problem and the advice you find on here was not helpful at all.

Hi there @DarrenH29

The Op’s problem wasn’t RCS or Google Messages, they are using Samsung Messages and their issue was the wrong number was showing for some contacts and not others. The link I posted is an iDM help page and on the lower half of that link (under other Android phones) offers a means of checking and turning off RCS and back on again. For the most part this fixes their wrong number issue. Others, using that link, need to try clearing the cache for both Google Play Services and Google Play Store. Some also perform a Network Settings Reset on their phone. What some only need to do the first thing and others have to do more or all of them is a bit of a mystery.

FWIW I also use Samsung Messages, as I declined the invite from my previous service provider in November 2023 to migrate to RCS and I elected to stay with Samsung for my texts when I joined iDM. Thus far I’ve never had it go wrong and my number was correct when I joined iDM, but I waited until my previous SIM died before even putting the iDM SIM anywhere near my phone.

Your issue, as in RCS probably showing the wrong number, can occur when you install the iDM SIM too soon as the provisional number allocated on the SIM by iDM gets retained by the phone. The fix is either that help page above or other peer to peer suggested ‘fixes’ or indeed as you had to too. Anyway sorry my advice didn’t help. But at least you found a solution that worked for you
