Having difficulty calling/receiving.

  • Active Contributor

Intermittent, I enter a number to call, display days "calling via 3", but nothing happens.

If/when I do get through to anyone, the call drops out after about 13 minutes.

My wife's phone, also with iD, just says "Network not available", yet 3 report no issues.

What's going on, anyone?

I’m just glad to hear you finally got all of this sorted

And I wish you well with your new provider 👍

Hey there @alcazar, welcome to Community!

How long have you had issues for? Is the issue only with calling?

Also, what phone do you have and what’s the full postcode please?

Thanks,

Tyler

Thank you @alcazar

Can you please try a network reset on the handset?

  1. First, expand the apps list and enter the Settings app.
  2. Now pick the Connection & sharing → the Reset Wi-Fi, mobile networks and Bluetooth.
  3. Now hit on the Reset settings and on the OK to begin.

Thanks,

Done that, no change.

It's a little better since I turned it off completely, removed both SIM cards, gave it 30 seconds, replaced them and restarted it.

But still sometimes won't make a call.

And currently EE are offering £20 off SIM only deals if I take their broadband, which is £30 cheaper than Virgin.....

Still got the same problem.

Brand new Three mast near the house, got 5 bars 5G.

Tried twice this morning to make calls, phone just sits there refusing to connect. Message comes up: : Connecting via Three", nothing happens.

Wife's phone, older than mine, (mine's a Redmi 12T pro, hers is a Redmi 9T), made both calls instantly.

I'm now at my wits end with this.

Can anyone help at all?

Hi @alcazar

Thank you for getting back to us.

We may need to look at providing a replacement SIM to see if this helps resolve the issue.

Are you able to pop the SIM in to another handset to see if there are any improvements?

If the service is still the same when trying another handset, please reach out to our Live Chat team here to request a replacement SIM.

Hi.

Tried this.

No difference.

Then tried to order a new SIM.

It just takes me round and round in circles.

How do I get a new SIM?

I'm fed up now and about ready to jump ship to EE. Or anyone but iD.

I've missed so many calls, and when a voicemail is left, I can't ring it to listen to it.

Please help

@alcazar

The probably easiest and quickest way to obtain replacement SIMs would be by popping into your local Currys.

You can then activate them using the iD Mobile app.

@alcazar -

If you do speak to Live Chat type ‘Speak to someone’ to connect to an agent, of as @Daz_S advised visit your local Currys. Once you get the SIM, you can activate It by following these steps:

Thanks.

I’ve just checked the iD Mobile phone compatibility list @alcazar

And sadly both phones are not on their list

Redmi        A1 4G
Redmi        10C
Redmi        Note 11
Redmi        Note 11 Pro 5G
Redmi         Note 12

So this might explain the erratic nature of both phones. The only advice I can offer is either to move to another provider or upgrade the phones.

Should you decide to move, be mindful those phones might not work on another network either after the 3G is switched off.

edit. Correction if yours is the Mi12T Pro then that IS showing on the Xiaomi  section. I;m not familiar with those phones but please check the list yourself.

Yes, mine is the 12T Pro plus, and shows as compatible. It had worked perfectly from purchasing until 17th October when we returned from France, that's when the problem started.

Zero problems in France, Spain or Portugal.

My wife's now has no problems.

When I swapped the SIM cards, the problem went away, as it did when I swapped them back...for about an hour. Then it was back.

Tomorrow we will swap them again, and leave them in each others' phones all day. See what that does.

Well that’s a good sign regarding your phone @alcazar

So the next thing is to check is to see if 3G has been turned off in your area. If you put your postcode into the following it defaults to 4G, simply select 3G and see what the map and text tells you:

https://www.three.co.uk/content/experience-fragments/threedigital/uk/en/site/mvno/coverage-checker/idmobile.html

If 3G has indeed gone from your area then you’d need to enable 4G or LTE, but either need VoLTE enabled.

There’s a generalised how to here (look for other android phones near the bottom):

If you find VoLTE wasn’t enabled and you can enable it see how the phones work.

All enabled.

Phone is 5G, mast less than 200m, five bars.

And STILL it's playing games.

I’ve just spotted something we have in common @alcazar

Zero problems in France, Spain or Portugal.

Same thing here. My wife and I went to those locations on a cruise and I had some significant difficulties obtaining the iD network when we were almost back to the UK. I wonder if the SIMs are acting up due to using them for roaming or by roaming its messed up the account somehow. I must admit in those locations I had full signal throughout.

<deleted incorrect info regarding replacement sims. I misread and assumed you’d not tried one yet. Sorry about that>

edit. Just also spotted you’ve already tried a SIM. I’m not sure what to suggest next

It really does look like Three haven’t got 5G working right in your area @alcazar

And having quickly gone back through this topic I do still wonder why you saw ‘calling via 3’.

But yes, being as this is really messing up calls I totally understand wanting to go to EE. Hopefully their 5G is working as you’d expect.

Hi @alcazar

Taking a look the device doesn’t appear to be officially supported, therefore issues may arise.

Have you tried manually connecting to another network for a few minutes and then manually connecting back to Three/iD?

Tom

My phone is supported, Redmi Note 12T pro plus.

Missed three important calls AGAIN today, can't even contact my MAIL from it when it's playing up.

Looks like I need a new phone, but reluctant to shell out another £300-£400 or more and find it's still the same.

So frustrating.

I so wish there was a number I could ring, so I could speak to someone who would sort it, one way or another..

No knowing what the problem is, and having no apparent way to find out, is doing my head in.

I’ve just gone through the posts again @alcazar

Just double checking something as on 2 separate posts you’ve written

post number 3

Redmi Note 12 T pro plus

And

post number 6

12T Pro plus

And just for clarity these are the phones iD say will work
Xiaomi 12 Pro 5G  ← it doesn’t say 12 T Pro plus 5G
Xiaomi Mi12 Lite
Xiaomi Mi12T Pro ← this one has a Mi before the 12 T Pro
Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro 5Gthis one doesn’t show a T
Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G ← this one also doesn’t show a T

The only phone iD reference with a ‘T’  in the model list is the one highlighted in red. This could be a typo by iD, I simply don’t know.

But you’ve also said yours is 5G capable. And the only 3 phones shown as 5G ready are the 12 Pro 5G, the Note 12 Pro 5G and the Note 12 Pro+ (plus) 5G.

If your phone is known as the Redmi Note 12 T Pro+ 5G then this model is not on their list, which is what Tom may be alluding to in his last reply.

And with all of that confusing matters, are you able to adjust the phone to use ‘4G/LTE,3G and 2G only’ rather than ‘5G 4G 3G 2G auto’ in the network mode? I wonder if the 5G is affecting the phone now back in the UK

Somebody else has a Redmi Note (theirs is the 11T 5G) phone and there’s also has the letter T in the model name.

I’ll copy it to here in case the letter T is significant

No idea if this additional T in the model name is significant or not.

Hi @alcazar & @Daz_S

I believe the non-T and T models are different, therefore our support across the range may differ.

Oh, great.

So a new phone at around £420, and that might, or might not work.

What a two bit setup.
