How do I get a second number on my new eSim?

Hi, I’m hoping someone can help me as I can not find any information about how to add a second NEW mobile number to the eSim I have just down loaded. I read that you can have two numbers so I thought this would be perfect to have as a personal and business so I can separate my calls. How is is this done? I also couldn't find if I am staying on the same contract which I’m assuming I will. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you Jo

You can’t have 1 SIM card with 2 numbers on. You would need 2 separate plans and 2 separate contracts. You just need to purchase another plan if you have an existing one already.

Hi MZ

Thank you for your reply, I really appreciate your time. I’m sorry if I wasn’t clear in my initial message, so I’ll try to explain a little better.

I understand that a single SIM card can’t have two numbers, which is why I was interested in using an eSIM. I read that with an eSIM, it’s possible to have two active numbers on one device, which I thought would be ideal, one number for personal use and one for business, all on my iPhone 13.

I downloaded the eSIM to my phone, hoping it would allow me to remove my physical SIM and continue using the same contract number. However, I couldn't find any clear information about whether my existing plan or number would be affected. I’ve checked my iD account, and nothing seems to have changed and there's no mention of the eSIM there either and I’m now unsure what to do next!

The process has been a little confusing, and I’ve struggled to find straightforward guidance, even AI couldn’t help me with this one! I’ve been really happy with iD for the past five years, but I do find situations like this difficult when it’s not possible to speak directly with someone.

So my question is: how can I go about getting a second number on my phone using the new eSIM? I won’t need to make many outgoing calls, it’s mainly for clients to contact me, and to help me feel more secure when advertising the number. Would a Pay As You Go plan be possible for this second number through iD, and if so, how do I set it up?

If that’s not an option, I may need to revert to my original SIM (if that’s still possible), or explore the idea of getting a second phone with a PAYG SIM — though I’d love to avoid that if I can.

Apologies for the long message, and thank you again for your help and patience.

Best regards, Joanne

So the iPhone can have 2 active SIM cards at any time. A physical SIM and an eSIM or 2 eSIM’s.

I for example have 2 eSIM’s - my iD eSIM as my primary line and a travel data eSIM as my secondary line due to living in a rural area and have patchy coverage

I take it you requested the iD eSIM to replace your physical iD SIM? If so you can remove the physical SIM as this will have been disconnected once you installed the eSIM.

You can either get an additional pay monthly or a PAYG SIM/eSIM from iD to use as a 2nd line.

Here is the link to PAYG https://www.idmobile.co.uk/sim-only-deals/pay-as-you-go

Here is the link for pay monthly https://www.idmobile.co.uk/sim-only-deals

Have a look and see what suits you best.

HI there, sorry I’ve been on other project. Ok so I’m just about to re-look into this… update so far is that am using my normal old SIM card with my original mobile number, there were a few issues with that but I think its ok now.

So now I’m going to go onto iD and purchase the 1 year contract eSim and get a new number to use for business at £6.00 mth.

I’m still not sure how this all works as I cant see on the iD app that I have already down loaded the eSim access from an email I received.

It is so frustrating not to be able to talk to some to talk this through with.

A am just assuming that my original contract has not been changed, it doesn't look like it but re assurance would be nice.

I’ll head off now and buy the eSim and let you know how I get on. I am sure I have nothing to worry about!

Any comforting response would be gratefully received.

Thanks

Joanne

OK so I have got to the point of submitting a £1 but hesitate to give this option as I have still not confirmed that I want an eSim. I have kept an eye out for a prompt but not seen anything, so until I hear back from someone here I will not proceed! Everything is so unclear!!!

I look forward to a response.

Joanne

I’m sure there is an option to select either eSIM or physical SIM before you checkout?

Worse case you get a physical SIM but you can just request it to be changed to an eSIM.
